Epic Conditions

Well at least that's the working title. Just wondering if anyone here has any suggestions for some new programming on my network that will be running beginning in winter of 2007. Basically the premise of the show will involve an extreme sport type athlete, an older expert in the sport and one of the Weather Channel personallities explaining the science behind the weather conditions involved. It's going to be a co-production with Warren Miller (Sorry TGR it wasn't my decision to make) and some of the topics so far are surfing at Jaws in Hawaii, mountaining biking in Moab, Powder skiing in Steamboat that are on the drawing board.

Just wondering if anyone here had any ideas of things they'd like to see or places they'd like us to go. I can forward the ideas along since this is still in the planning stages. Any input is appreciated since I think the type of people here are who would be interested in what we're trying to do.

I think mountain biking in Whistler would be more appealing (to me) than Moab.

I think anything with EPIC in the title is going to turn this crowd off.

Steamboat?

How about something a little more innovative?

Silverton.
Mt. Ripley.
Mt. Washington cog train.
Wallowas.
Teton Pass.
Mt. Bailey.

Paragliding/Soaring (Owens valley?)

You know what would be really epic? Tuning into the Weather Channel and seeing a weather forecast instead of some bullshit Storm Stories or a lobotomized version of a morning show. TWC is borderline unwatchable these days if you are looking for weather info. If you aren't going to give us weather and analysis, how about a little more of Stephanie Abrams hurricane reporting with only a t-shirt on?


Oh yeah, windsurfing in the Columbia River Gorge?

I'm pretty sick about the general public spouting off El Nino to ignorantly offer an explanation on any weather phenomena.

Please don't use
1) Extreme - That word is hackneyed.
2) Epic - Hackneyed

You may try getting into the weather along the lines of heli-skiing in Alaska, the the monsoon effects on Everest...in general how the mountains can create their own weather. If you are thinking about surf breaks, you may want to get into why a surf break like Blacks can be double overhead and cranking while Scripps a mere half mile away has half the size and a fraction of the power.

Sorry did I read correctly that your going to take an older crowd to surf Jaws.

What are you nuts. 50 foot waves, 1 wave you fall you die. And on top of that a lot of pissed off local Hawaiians that you are surfing their waves with little to no recognition in the surfing world. Sounds like a terrible idea to me.

I still think your going to have a lot of hostitilities from the Hawaiins and the surfing community. Jaws has been a zoo in the last few years and people hate all the damn crowds. Jaws is way too publized anyways. WHy not show another big wave spots like Todo's, or that new one down in Chili.

If its an older crowd as well why don't you do something on mountaneering or hut trips that access awesome terrain. something they can relate to more

Replace the word "Epic" with Optimal. Oh and Ken Bradshaw (one of the best big wave surfers out there) is at least 50

If you use Billy Kidd for the Steamboat seggy I'm boycotting TWC despite Ms. Abrams' assets.

I was thinking the same thing, that's why I posted here. Understand many of the people making the decisions are based in Atlanta which I would not consider the home of hardcore skiers.

Jaws might also have been selected because the Weather Channel isn't carried by Time Warner Hawaii and they are looking for a reason to get the system to carry us. Also I think there is probably a lot of footage already available from that location so we can do the first episode fairly inexpensively and then fine tune the segments as we get a better understanding of what the viewers really like to watch.

On a somewhat related note, can someone here do my work for me?

I think you should call the Show "Sickbird" or "Tales of the Gnar."
