Does anyone know if there are any differences in shell fit of Matrix and Denali... I've heard that Matrix fits for wider foot, is this true ? If anyone can give any "comparison" notes I would greatly appreciate them.

my denali's fit great all the way around, just like my salomon x-wave 10's and garmont mega rides. i have a high arch and otherwise a normal foot. the matrix fits ok in the heel but from the arch forward my foot swims in there. i can buckle it all the way down and still not get close to a performance fit.
is the matrix the same as the laser? if so, I can tell you tomorrow...

I tried on the Matrix and it feels pretty similar, though quite a bit softer. I'd need to do liner modifications, but I feel like I could get it to fit well.
I tried on the 30.5 (largest they make) Megaride (this year's model), and it hurt like hell. Very narrow, very low volume, very low volume calf. The top two buckles won't fit around my ankle and calf. I couldn't wear this boot if I got them for free.
I have a wide, flat forefoot, large ankles and calves, and a high arch that requires footbeds. I'd love to ski Megarides, but they absolutely do not fit.

the megar ride is a lower volume boot than the denali but not by too much. a half heat thermo does wonders for that boot. the denali tt 28.5 fit well w/ or w/o the thermo for my feet. i'm in a mega ride 28.0 and it is a true performance fit. the matrix is a comfortable boot for a wider volume foot. i want to be able to fit in it but i can't. as tight as it goes i can still move my forefoot a half cm each direction.
That's unusual/interesting. The Denalis are always noted for their boxy/big volume/no feel fit.Quote:

i am using some replacement liners that seem to be the same as stock in my tt's. they fit well but not a true performance fit. the xt's may fit even wider than the tt's.
side note, when i tried on the boots at bd they mentioned how much roomier the matrix was in the forefoot than the denali. it was something that i had already figured out ,so they refered me to the mega ride that fit tight as hell. 1/2 a thermo and i'm loving them.

I'm on old (all red) Denalis, and they're definitely a very boxy fit. Wasn't aware that they changed the mold when moving to the TT & XT. I'm using Intuition liners.
I switched to the TT/XT (silver) tongue for a bit, then decided I didn't like it. My boot/liner combo is laterally stiff with good fore/aft flex.
I'll ski & climb with 'em till they die. They probably have 500 days on them.
Side note: Anyone have any red Scarpa size 8/9 tongues?
trackhead skied the old red/purple denalis and now has the matrix. the tounge and cuff system looks different on the old denali vs the xt/tt.
The Laser had the same tongue system as the older, red Denalis (don't know exactly about the red/purple and pink/purple earlier Denalis - but photographically they look highly similar) which is also compatible with the XT/TT and Flexon tongues.Quote:

I'm considering to buy Matrix for Dynafit compatibility. I currently have Denali TT(size 27MP) with Scarpa thermo liner. The fit is quite tight (about one finger behind the heel) and I wonder if I should go for 1/2 size larger with Matrix. I would like to have a little more room for two pair of socks for colder conditions.
As far as I know the Scarpa shell size changes so that the 27.5-28 are the same size, but the 27.5 has a different liner. I wonder if the 27.5 Matrix is too roomy compared to my current 27 Denali TT... unfortunately I don't have the opportunity to fit and test the Matrix :confused:
garmont tele boot sizes break that way, i think. i know that scarpa AT beaks on the evens, ie a 28.0 and 28.5 are the same shell w/ a different liner.
Are you sure ? At least the web site of Marmot Mountain Works says that
the 1/2 size and the next full size use the same shell

you're right. i had garmont and scarpa backwards. i just got my mega rides a few weeks ago and am still thnking about those i guess.
i'm pretty sure in the scarpas that 27.5 and 28.0 are the same shell size, and so on throughout the sizes. im 99% sure there is no such thing as a half size liner. between the 27.5 and the 28.8 the only difference is the foot bed inside the liner, which should be thrown out and replaced with something better anyways (yes i am a custom insole snob). I dont think there is a company out there that actually makes a half size liner, so as long as you get the right shell size youre golden
That seems to be true. By the way does anyone know if the Matrix Thermo is equipped with the Scarpa mid-cuff or high-cuff liner?. If I remember right Scarpa has two different thermo liners for mid-cuff and high-cuff boots... the cuff of Matrix seems to be quite low but

yes, the matrix has the same liner as the denali TT,the tall liner. im not sure if the matrix cuff is lower than the denalis, but i think it is a bit lower than say the garmont mega rides. i had a pair of matrix and then swapped for some mega rides because there was just way too much room in the matrix
wilcox510, was the matrix same size as the mega ride? About the matrix, is it only wider in the forefoot or is the shell length also different compared to, say denali TT?

Denali was extremely tight...actually pointing to a great fit if I were to buy & heat up liners..or change liners to better performing liner. Got a much different feeling with the Matrix...much like what you felt.
yeah my matrix (matrices?) and mega rides were the same size. huge difference in overall volume. i used to have denalis too. i thought they were huge and boxy. scarpas just dont fit me. i need the lowest volume AT boot there is, which is why im in the mega rides
