I learned how to surf on Maui a few Summers ago, and I really enjoyed it. Towards this Summer sometime, I'd like to head down to Baja, camp on the beach and surf a sandy break in warm head high waves without getting heckled by the k00k haters. ;)
Am I asking for the world or is this possible? Thanks for any input. Besides standing up on a board and riding a wave in, I'm pretty much clueless about the whole "sport". Thanks.
I don't know Baja too well but Mal Pais, Costa Rica is made for kooks from CO, Candada, and the PNW who want to travel cheap and surf.

It's entirely possible to do this on the cheap. Look up Punta San Carlos for mellow beginner type breaks. There's many more but most are on the pacific side where the water isn't the warmest. Not a lot on Sea of Cortez sideQuote:

Was in baja Nov/Dec near Todos Santos.The spot is called San Pedritos.There is also a pretty sweet campground with palapas,hot showers etc...4$/night. Also check out Los Cerritos, about 10km to the south. Free camping,but crowdy and it's also more of a party scene.
Lotsa places for free/cheap camping and some good surf spots on the Sea of Cortez side south of La Paz to San Jose del Cabo. Try August through November when the get storms called chubascos. Don't know too much about the Pacific side, except there are a lot of surf spots and camping is similar.Quote:

Baja is one of my favorite places. There are plenty of places to go and not get shit from locals or asshole transplants. I'd stay away from north Baja and venture to central and (not all the way) south. You'll know when you pull up if a spot is cool (most of the time). Spring is a good time to go. It can get hot in the summer. Take a wet suit (waters cold), and talk to the locals, most are super cool. :cool:
