Utah TR and the madness that it was
Ok, let me premise this by saying it's gonna be long, and some might be a repeat, and I aplogize for that but i just wanna spread the crazy stoke of the last 4 days. It went something like this......
Arrive in town around 4:30 in the morning on the 24th only to be waken up 3 hour later to go to the 'bird with the family. A few hours and too many groomers later Telephil shows up and we bid adeu to the groomers in search of wind buff in the Cirque. 4 laps, some small drops, a little double in the trees and a straightline to end the day later, my pansy-ass SoCal legs were telling me I was done. It was sweet following Telephil around and seeing how tele skiing is really done.
Christmas day dawned with new snow but none of the bros wanted to head up so I figured I'd just hang out and let the snow accumulate. Heh, kinda funny when I think about that now.
So Christmas night I meet up with Telephil and Altachic and around 10:30 Telephil's buddy calls and says get our asses up the canyon since it's closing at midnight and we don't want to get stuck in line at the mouth the next day. Well, after a mad dash to get gear and meet back up with Altachic and Telephil we head up the canyon. I guess they had called phUnk and Dantheman and gottent them the word and they made it up the canyon. Well, we were 5 minutes late and were denied had had to turn around. Pissed and dejected we turned tail in a surly mood, cursing Dantheman and phUnk for their luck.
So, an early morning found us in line waiting, and waiting, and waiting. Saw Powho pull up, then BumZ, then MD9. Around 9:30 word comes that afternoon is the earliest the Canyon will open. Then word comes that MD9 will treat us to a tour of the Basin. Altachic and Telephil bail, I grab another buddy and the drive north commences. A snowmobile would have been a better means of transportation for that drive but that's another story. Arriving safely wwe meet up with MD9, Meats, GT40, flykdog, iskibc, and BumZ. The snow is deep and windloading makes it even deeper in places. Following MD9 he takes us over to a drop he says is 10-15 feet. Hah, ends up being a solid 20. Turned out to be the perfect warmup for the Hog.
By mid afternoon it was time and MD9 takes us over and we begin to slip the inrun. After a little chat with a patroller we continue our work, all the while the worm was turning in my gut at the thought of hucking that thing.. MD9 was gracious enough to let me go first and dammit if it wasn't the funnest damn huck I've ever hit. Clean and smooth and a landing oh so deep. My buddy popped her straight, MD9 did a couple big ass lawn darts, as did BumZ, and in my second go round figured I what the hell and tried the same. The ensuing abberation was possibly the ugliest front ever attempted. Hot tubbed tha landing and called it a day for the Hog.
A couple laps later, the snow was as deep as the morning and our earlier tracks were covered. Goes down as one of the funnest days on skis. Absolute blast skiing with the Maggots.
Wished again for the 'bile for the drive back but made it safe past numerous slid out and wrecked cars. It was absolute madness on the roads on Friday.
So, woke early Saturday, knowing full well 4 feet of new snow awaited. And waited, and waited, and waited....... 10:30 the gates drop. Telephil had queued us perfectly and after one of the dumbest/ballsiest moves I've ever seen driving up the Canyon, we were 5th car into the lot. Then, it was on........
Choking deep shots still down Wildcat face, untracked Fred's, whiteroom visits, out to thirds, more choking, more visits to the whiteroom, a little drop sent me up to my nipples in fluff. Telephil and I hit tree air then deeeeeeep snow below it. Choking, gaggin, blinded, absolutely loving it. And so it went, the rest of the day. Pillows everywhere. It went something like this: carry speed in the chops then explode in the pillows. Deep, face numbing, blinding, choking. Every cliche ever uttered to describe the stuff we love, we live for, was experienced Saturday. Not once, ever, the entire day, did I hit anything that might be consided a bottom. Easily one of the deepest days I've ever experienced.
And that's it. That's how it ended. Was cool to meet some more Maggots. Shared a chair with Dantheman, heard the Crossover cackle from the lift, saw Powho abolutely tearing up Fred's trees.

Come on man, was it ballsy or stupid, I can't decide. It was pretty funny though how no one said a word, just held on to the seats until it was over. I was kinda scared.
