Targhee Report: 12/28--FROZEN NIPPLES

Man, what a weekend. I'll let Cletus write up the details of our I-da-ho tours, which included a bonus yurt trip and some deep pow.....

But, about five minutes after Cletus thawed his wheels (literally) in my driveway and departed for SLC, a coworker called from Driggs. "Dude, you just gotta get here. 39 inches overnight last night and still dumping! They couldn't open a lot....crrrrrckkhe....shiiiiiiiichhhhhhhehhehe," and his cell went out. What was I to do? I called a friend and talked her into driving at 4am the following morning to Grand Targhee, about 4 hours away.

We pulled into the parking lot at about 9 and quickly put gear on and stumbled towards the lift. We had to take a little one outta the parking area just to access the next. THe snow looked nice and all, but not that deep from the chair. After unloading, we skated down a cat track en route to the next. The snow on the side of the cat track was untracked. "Come on....we can catch some steeper shots down to the lift," I yelled as I turned my skis off the cat track and down the fall line, ready for the untracked pow. Big mistake. I made it about 10 feet down the hill, off the cat track, until I came to a stop, snowline just above my chest. "MOTHER OF GOD!" I yelled.

The rest of the day was spent on whatever steeper shots we could find, which were necessary to simply move in the reported 73 inches in 3 days that Targhee had received. Face shots were had on every single muthafuckin' turn, and I even had to pull my collar as tight as possible because I'd find myself sinking to neck level every now and again. My friend and I hit some smaller cliffs, seemlessly landing in bottomless fluff and ripping through the trees below the cliffs. Overall, I'd have to say that it was definitely one of the best days I've ever had. Period.

Yeah, X, I don't know the names of their lifts, let alone their runs....though I've skied there several times in the past 3 years. The cliff band area was really good, as was the gully down to the lowest lift. Also, right off the nose under the main lift proved to be one of the best runs....super long.

Nothing in the media, but i heard the rumor through unofficial channels.

No, Jiffy, I did not. But then again, I didn't really talk to that many people.

... that's funny; we were all laughin cause you didn't make the drive down to ski something that was steep enough to actually turn on :D :D
