Alta 1/12/06

Testicles.....that is all.

Well, not quite all. 8-9" overnight + mucho wind made things fast. Very fast. Great conditions everywhere, and the morning included a backside and shoulder opening. Probably one of the most fun days I've had so far this year. It was good to see the AGs back out there, fun to make turns with Raps, and had a good little run with AC out in the Pocketbook. And yes bagtag, we missed you (or at least I did). MMM MMM.

In sort of housekeeping/nomenclature issues: I think the chute/runout beneath Harpo's should be renamed Skid Row, because I'm pretty sure a flailer in the runout left some marks on his BVDs as Powho mached by. That was quite the sight to witness from Sugarloaf.

It turned bluebird a bit earlier than I had hoped, but touring across the road tomorrow should still be fun.

Was so good today. I was on the 179 Bros for a bit.

The best run was that one Pocketbook with the AG's, Stump, Chris and that one dude. Nice little air Stump!


The Bros are pretty sweet. The bindings on them suck pretty bad and they are mounted too far forward for my taste, felt weird. I like the way they ski and how they feel, but the mounting is off in my opinion.

Oh, and AG will chime in on the Bros, she took them for a spin as well.

HCAC memberships are a privilige, not a right son. Failure to follow the rules will get it revoked. It is clearly stated in the Alta Rulebook that the only time turning is acceptable behavior in Glory Hole is when there is a minimum of 15' of avie debris piled up at the bottom. You're on my list.

I pretty much felt the same way. The first thing I noticed sitting on the chair was "whoa these look short" - they seemed very center mounted. And that made me a little nervous, because the only skis I've really hated demoing have been center mounted skis. We hiked up to High Notch, which was sweet - the light weight made it much easier than I'm used to. Love that. Traversing and side slipping was good. Dropped into the powder and they were okay but I felt like I had to work at not letting the tips dive. Lean forward like I like to do, and things got ugly. I think the fact that the really low profile tips probably contribute to that as well as the mounting point. (What's up with that BTW? The big bros don't have that much of a low profile tip, I didn't think.) Halfway down, one ski sunk a little, binding fell off, and I cartwheeled down. Ugh, that hurt. I missed my good bindings already.

Next run I just did a combination of groomers and powder to get a feel for them on other surfaces. They behaved just fine on the groomed, and I like the stiffness there, though I think they were a little too stiff for easy powder turns. At the bottom, I was skiing soft bumps, which was okay, but again, I'm just not used to having that much tail sticking out behind me. A little weird.

And then I switched back to Gotamas before I really hurt myself on those bindings. Overall... it's really hard to say. I didn't like where they were mounted, but I'm fine with the sidecut and the flex is a little stiffer than I like, but I could live with it.

Turning is fun. Straightlining is a waste of perfectly good pow.

Do you really need to post a report every time you go skiing at Alta or another resort? It's gay. It's boring, and nobody gives a shit. If we wanted to know we would read the snow report and look at the webcam on their website.

I don't post a trip report every time I take a shit, but it's pretty close to your "I skied Alta today, look at me" reports.

AG, AC - sorry about the binders and the mounting point!! ugh, that doesn't sound fun... but it's kind of surprising because conventional thinking right now is that women SHOULD have a more forward mounting point, though you two aren't conventional. I mean that in a good way - you're both strong skiers, so it shouldn't have to be more forward for you.

Stiffnesswise, I did forget to to remind you that particular pair was more along the lines of our "Stiff-Very Stiff" big bros - they should have been a "soft" flex, so that would be maybe more where you both would like them.
