BCC closes at 6, LCC?
this is altagirl -
Alta snow report says road closed at midnight, interlodge at 1am, no specific predicted opening time for the road.
R.B.
Get up there this afternoon, we'll still be there (beers at GMD / P-dog after to savor the day).
I'm bringing a snorkel.........
At this time, the road into Little Cottonwood Canyon is temporarily clsoed due the threat of avalance activity. The Town of Alta is under Interlodge restrictions. Please know that crews are working 24 hours a day and hope to have the road open for skiers today.
We just got turned around at the mounth of LCC (0700), Sheriff thought 2-3 hours. They wouldn't even let us wait in line as normal. We're going back in a few minutes to try to get a spot in line.
There is also a report that a 33 year old man is lost as he tried to go from Alta to Snowbird yesterday. Anyone else hear this?
Storm Hampers Search for Lost Skier
Dec. 25, 2003
(KSL News) Thursday night's snowstorm is a major factor in the search for a missing skier in Big Cottonwood Canyon.
More than 100 searchers, from three counties, are scouring an area around the Brighton Ski Resort.
The 33 year old had planned to ski from Alta to Brighton on one of the popular cross country ski trails this evening when the storm rolled in and he got disoriented.
He first called for help on a cell phone around 6:30.
The heavy snows have prevented helicopters from helping, so right now searchers from Salt Lake, Utah and Wasatch Counties are using snowmobiles to search.
The skier said he had no light, and only a small package of food and water designed to last about two hours.
Searchers are concerned about avalanche danger.
man, those snow totals are unreal. another classic dump at alta ya lucky bastards :D
Have they lifted Interlodge yet?
Goddamn. Only 36 days 'till I'm there.

This is the snow report from Alta at 11:00am on Friday, December 26th.
We're having a fantastic ski season, already and more snow is in the forecast. Over 22” of new snow since closing yesterday make 32" in the past 2 days! All that new snow brings settled snow base depth at mid-mountain to 80” and total snowfall already this season is 237”. Today, we’ll ski deep powder and excellent machine worked runs.
Right now in Alta, it is snowing, winds are light and it’s 19 degrees at the Wildcat Base. Today, we’re expecting an 8-14” of new snow with light to moderate Northwest winds and high temperature near 28 degrees early, then dropping. Tonight, another 4-8" are likely with light to moderate winds and low temperature near 15 degrees. The extended forecast calls for 3-6" on Saturday, 2-5" Saturday night and another storm system to move into the Canyon on Monday.
At this time, the road into Little Cottonwood Canyon is temporarily closed due to the threat of avalanche activity. The Town of Alta is under Interlodge restrictions. Ongoing avalanche control work is in progress. At this point, we hope to have Alta open for skiing this afternoon. As soon as we have a better estimate, we’ll update this announcement. Please know that State and Alta crews are doing all they can to get us open for skiing today.
Rescue Crews Find Lost Skier
Dec. 26, 2003
(KSL News) A Brighton man is lucky to be alive after losing his way on a ski slope.
33-year old Jim Williams was cross country skiing when last night's massive storm rolled in and left him disoriented.
When he realized he was lost, Williams called searchers on his cell phone but couldn't tell him where he was.
Crews from three counties spread out across the mountain but could find no sign of Williams.
Blowing snow and the fear of avalanvches complicated the search.
Rescuers were just about to give up for the night when they heard Williams blowing a duck call as a signal.
Katie Gerba/ Friend of Missing Skier: "He's a survivor and I knew he was going to make it somehow. Luckily they found him."
Williams was taken to a hospital in Heber where he is said to be in good condition.

All this new snow and the road is closed. Well, at least tomarrow will go off.
Ok, so I'm back at the office now; BCC just closed again, not sure why. This is a great storm! I think my plan is to head for Solitude tomorrow and try to avoid some of the LCC and holiday crush...
I did a live report for the Weather Channel this morning at 7:30 mountain time, from here in SLC...anyone catch it?
(Edit; not the greatest frame grab, but here it goes...)
