What has been the liner used in your cast if you have had one? I tried a soft
3M--made it 2 days with that. The literature said it was supposed to dry in 1-3 hours, but for me took 8 hours the first time and 5 hours the second--took less time because I concentrated on keeping it out of the shower water.
So now I have the goretex liner. Not sure it's much better, though. My hand is sweaty and damp, which was what I wanted to avoid with the slow drying 3m liner.

I don't do much casting, but most people seem to do fine with a regular stockinette liner with padding over it.
The big thing is mainly keeping the cast and padding as dry as possible, which means keeping it covered in the shower and trying no to sweat too much.
Once that padding gets wet it will do a couple things.
1. itch like crazy
2. smell really bad
3. cause some destruction of the skin
4. set up the possibility of infection due to the 3 above
In the end go with which ever liner is most comfy for you but really work at keeping it dry.
the 3m & goretex are both supposed to be able to get wet. we'll see how fast the goretex dries out when I take a shower. it's plasticy already and with being sick right now with a fever ear infection, the hand/arm is pretty clammy.:tdo13:

It's been so long since I've had one, but it was on my wrist and I just kept it out of the water. I don't know if you'd want dampness against your skin trapped by goretex. Sounds like infection/irritation waiting to happen.
Yeah, I'm thinking I'm not going to last long in this one, either, and go for a standard issue non-waterproof one.:cussing:Quote:

my friend got his cast wet and his foot started to rot they had to take him out of the cast two weeks early and his foots still hind screwed up.
Was his cast liner made to get wet?
i have had 2 broken/ shattered hands and the gortex rocks it got it wet all the time and also rode sno mobiles in it and got it full of gasoline and all sorts of stuff but had no problem with it drying it is awesome
I got a cover for my cast. The peeps at the hospital suggested it. Got it at the Pharmacy.
It's a clear plastic tube, with a plastic ring and rubber gasket to shove your arm/leg into. I got a "stout" by mistake, so use some rubber bands to cinch it down a bit in the shower. It's not for wearing outside, that's for sure.
Yeh it did cost almost $20, to cover a cast up to my elbow. There are covers for whole & half arms & legs. A lot less hassle than 2 bin bags, I was told.
...so what color is your cast. Didn't know there were colors now. I got purple :)
I'm liking the goretex liner. it dries fast and isn't getting tooo funky smelling. (the horses all like to sniff my hand :rolleyes: ) I got purple, too!Quote:
