NSR - the elections changed NOTHING

Why has this shit moved to page 3?? - I know many here hate political threads, but the election over there changed fucking NOTHING - while I get to go skiing and drinking all this weekend, we have 120,000 of our relatives, friends and countrymen stuck in that sandbox counting the days till they get out. 11 US troops killed not even Page TWO news, never mind page one???! Is America just tuning this out and becoming numb to it..? I know people there, I cringe at every new casualty report, that it might be someone I know.. :confused: Flame me if you want, but eleven more families are getting the dreaded "knock on the door" today.

Give it a rest dude, those trapped miners are waaay more interesting to talk about. :nonono2:

And you were expecting all violence to cease right after the elections? Sounds like a case of unrealistic expectations. Prepare yourself for the fact that US troops will be in country for a few more years to come. Not 120,000 strong, but they'll be there in number for a long time. It will be a while before the Iraqi's can stand on their own two feet.

That said, militarily, the insurrection is defeated as they've been pushed out of all the towns they used to control in the Sunnin triangle. But that won't stop suicide bombers and IEDs from causing mayhem and killing our guys over there. Our army isn't really built to win those conflicts. It will take the Iraqi's to sniff out and stop that shit before it happens, along with a large dose of govt legitimacy. So depressing to think about it.

Yes, I think America has become numb to the war, myself included. The whole thing is a big clusterfuck that this administration has no solution of how to get out of. It's so unfortunate that Americans have to die over there, but what are we to do? The one thing I did do was not vote for W, but it looks like that didn't do any good.

They are numb, until it's one of their own.

No, you didn't say that, but your incredulity that the election shadn't changed anything indicated that you had some sort of expectations. It's been three weeks. I think we all have to lower our sights and be resigned to the fact that it's going to be longer and harder than anyone realizes. Too bad the administration didn't have a clue how to win the peace after they won the war.

Fox lead with this story last evening, followed by Arik Sharon's rapid decline(this scares the shit out of me). WaPo and NYT both had it leading on their websites. dunno about print.
