east conditions- ug.

i was at stowe over xmas and then next few days. they had a decent amount of snow, but it started raining and warmed up real fast. then, the cold front moved through and turned the place to a hockey rink (think gapers careening to the left, gapers careening to the right, and here i am stuck on the 1m of good snow on either side of the runs). i think they've had another thaw and refreeze since then, but i wouldn't recommend hitting anything until they get at least another 6 inches to a foot of natural stuff.

all that said, a bad day skiing beats a good day doing just about anything else. :)

I was at Stowe/Smuggs the 24th and 25th... Stowe was going much better than Smuggs to begin with. At Stowe, pretty much everything seemed skiable. At Smuggs, most everything that I looked at off Madonna was windscoured or just completely beat down to the dirt. Morse was actually pretty good though.

I'm still planning on skiing Mt. Slow on New Year's Day, just in case anyone else might be there. Looks like they may get some snow tonight and tomorrow, possibly through Sunday (after it changes over from rain, which of course it will definitely do).

dex, you gonna be kicking the sweat pants like usual? ;)

yeah, trees at stowe were still pretty sweet till the arctic blast kicked in.

Ha, funny you should mention that (because I always wear my sweats to ski). A few weeks ago I walked into the Carinthia lodge at Mt. Snow (I know it was a few weeks ago because I remember it being pretty cold outside), and as I was taking off my goggles/hat and walking, I heard, "Dexter Rutecki!?!" called out. Big Jay was sitting in front of me. One of the first things I did was point to my pants and say, "See, no sweats!"
Then we talked about how neither of us even mention on the board when we're going to be at Mt. Snow, because no one else is ever there.

It's my fault, i bought new skis last week.

Weekend looks promising though...i'll be somewhere on Monday, not sure where yet.

Looks decent for Sunday. Hoping to wake up to a little layer over the whatever-is-left-frozen-to-a-base. Xmas day was very nice in the trees at Kmart, and a patroller told me this week that the Gore trees have a perfect frozen base that's waiting for some snow.

Gore skiers, here's a little inside info. A lot of the tree areas were damaged by a wind event in late fall. Some of the patrol has been in there with chainsaws opening up gaps, but I'm told one of the new areas won't open at all this season. Anyway, be careful in there - things are different.

Looks like Mt. Washington has had a little snow lots of blower anyway I am planing to go up on Monday and at least skiing the Shurburne Trail maybe more.

K-Mart was interesting yesterday. Not as bad as I thought, definately need snow. Ducked into the Snowdon woods late day and was surprised to find pretty good coverage, unfortunately the snow was like paste but it was fun. It was POURING rain when I left at 3 so today and tomorrow will be kinda interesting. Planning on heading back up either Sunday or Monday so hope for good things

I'm not heading up for two more weeks. hopefully things will have shaped up by then.

I hit Stratton 2 weeks ago, right when they got about 8 inches of snow, cover was great. There was a lot of poaching going on. I haven't been out since. It's been 40's & 50's and pissing rain at the house. I could mow my backyard. I may take advantage of my stratton freebie and hit it again next weekend. Let's hope this worm will turn and we'll get back to some freaking snow. Tough holiday for Northeast resorts...

Haha, yeah that was a random moment.

I have been teaching ski lessons to little rich kids at the Quechee Lakes ski hill...or should I say the Quechee Lakes ice rink. I think the parking lot was softer than the "snow" on the trails.

You teach at Quechee? How is it these days? My folks had a house there for 15 years (sold it four years ago). Used to hike the hill in the spring - many fond memories of that place. Most of them contain trips to Long Trail.

Probably the same as it was when you were here from what I here. There is a quad now that replaced the old lift. A bunch of rich kids running around like they own the place who get top of the line equipment every year. But it is a lot of money for what I do....
