Help me make the best of Copper.

Let's just say that you had:

A free condo to stay in at Copper

A free Suburban to drive around all week

6 day pass to Copper with the EZ Pass, cut to the front of the line thingy on it (don't really know what this is, but it sounds sweet, kinda like at Universal Studios or Disney, where you don't have to wait in line)
That one seems especially key at this time of year.

A pair of skis and a snowboard

What would you ride at Copper, where else would you ride?

What are the best lifts, runs, areas at Copper? It has been a while since I have been there, and that was only once.

I plan a few days at Vail and at least one at A-Basin too. Depending on snow, I may hoof it up to Aspen Highlands. That would have to be a really worthwhile trip, though. Like 10"+ worthwhile.

Hope to see some Colorado Maggots out there, but I know it is the holidaze, and skiing in-bounds is a tough call. If you are up for it, give me a shout.

what kind of terrain do you like to ride? it's hard to give you the "best lift" or "best runs" without knowing that...

What days are you going to be around?

Copper: I'd suggest a hike to the top of Tucker (if it's open now) - Check out Freemont Glades. If the snowcat line is huge just take the ski/hike along the ridge of Copper Bowl to get to Tucker - you can also drop into some lines there. If the snow sucks, then high speed groomer laps off the Super Bee lift can be fun. Patrol Chute in Spaulding Bowl is short vert but some of the steepest stuff on the mountain.

i had those beeline passes last year when i got a cheap condo up there. They are the best thing about copper. WHen the line is super deep you blaze through the turnstyle and right on a chair, pissing off the whole line. Its great!

If you find yourself skiing there alone figure out ways to make the best use out of the superbee chair.

the trees to skiers right of A chair are a great powder stash cause of the slow double that accesses it and the intimidating bump run that is directly under the chair. It spits you out on a power line go left and find the chair, repeat. you can milk that forever for good tree runs w/ small drops and rock kickers.

stay away from Resolution chair unless you like badly formed bumps. If its cold and powdery you should be ok and can be fun. But the resolution chair is slow as hell and the 2 chairs at the main base are only good for accessing the parks. Spaulding bowl is some of the best lift accessed stuff in summit, but its an hour for each run minimum cause you gotta ride up the Tbar, lines this time of year will be at least half an hour per trip. But skiing spaulding bowl is worth waiting in line up there a few times. Upper enchanted forest has some great stuff too.

S chair accesses a very short hike to union bowl which has great skiing and the union roll, a Huge natural kicker at the bottom. Check out your takeoff and landing and then prepare to session that for at least 4 or 5 good hits. Watch out for gomers landing on top of you though, there is a big gaper factor on that hit.

The backside is ok, but can get really funky snow cause of all the sun it gets. if theres no new snow dont bother.

Nah, Copper can be fun.

Hopefully Tucker will be open for you. I'v had some of my best turns ever back there. Hike as far around as you can. Long hike, but worth it. Find a local and take it all the way down to the highway. Or take the Blackjack lift back out (a lift that I had the pleasure of digging a tower hole by hand on:nonono2: ).

Spaulding and Union bowl are fun; good steeps (Spaulding in particular).

Back side of S chair can have some good snow. Long traverse out, though. Especially on a board.

Evil's suggestion of the A lift trees was an excellent one if there is a good dumpin.

Whoa chief, can't get your anger out over on Ttips? There isn't anything listed an astute person can't figure out using a trail map and some exploring.

And telechuck, I do have the magic set up, but it doesn't include hammerheads. :D

Hell, I didn't even know they did tours on Tucker Mountain now. TOURS!?!?!?

They'll probably be putting a lift up Tucker soon, then the backside of THAT will be open!

I guess I see his point, but it is a stretch. I just looked at the trail map, and most of that info is right there for me to see. I generally keep out of the BC, cause I just don't like doing it without the proper gear, and no friends that know the way.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will make the most of it, but A-basin will be calling my name at least one day. If anyone is out there, let me know. I hope to get wireless somewhere at the mountain, so I will be checking in.

P.S.- Thanks PM Gear. The huge AJ Kitt roller bag is stuffed with one pair of skis, two poles, one snowboard w/o bindings, and one with bindings. Plus, I squeezed all my tools and hardware for the boards, along with my gf's boots. All that, and right at 50 lbs. Christ that thing is big.

Agreed- all that hiking. I'd rather throw on my fur boots and hit Gucci, now that is a vacation.

A-Basin is great. Loveland is close to Copper as well. If you decide to hit Loveland (powder day), there are plenty of maggots here to show you around.
