Tele questions

I put this in Tech talk but it's hard to get a response in there. Forgive me but I want to get these new skis mounted SOON :D

My girl just gave me a early Xmas present, new Black Diamond Arch Angels. I don't know much about tele's, tried it out at the Telefair at Pico last year and loved it. The Angels are 170cm, pretty stiff ski, made for woods from what she was told.

Any advice on binders for these skis? Mostly EC and woods skiing so keep that in mind. I need to get boots too, whadda ya think? I've been alpine skiing for almost a decade and ski everything. Would like to get into backcountry with these things if possible.

Don't know if you are interested in releasable binders, but if not I'd go with Rottefella Cobra's or the G3 Targa T/9. Voile's are notorious for spring problems and snowpack underfoot, and Black Diamond issued a recall on their 02s last year due to crappy risers.

Support-wise, you definitely want a hardwire binding.

Boots are always subjective, but the Scarpa T2 is typically a good first boot as it is softer than the T1, good for the bc you spoke of.

the snow buildup on Voile's that honc mentioned can be eliminated with anti-ice tape.

I hear great things about the new cobra r-8's, possibly my next binding. Targa's are ubiquitous. Voile hardwires are decent (I have a pair), and the 3-pin hardwire is a great touring setup. Coulior did a comprehensive binding review in their October issue, I think. This past weekend I tried some 7tm releaseables and was unimpressed. personally, I prefer a more powerful, active binding and they were too floppy.

boots- I'm a fan of larger boots, but that's just me. make sure you get them fitted properly, garmonts for higher volume, scarpas for lower volume, don't know anything about crispi's.

I am using Voile Hardwires and Crispi CX-A on a pair of 179 BD crossbows and I like the loosey-goosey feel they give me. The tape keeps build-up to a min, and I like the neutral feel. I have used Linkens too (though on bigger, heavier skis). They are big, beefy, powerful, a little heavy. The step-in is nice, but that set-up lost a little of the "high-wire act" feeling I like about tele. I have used G3 targas as well and would give them a very good endorsement.

Thanks again for all the info. It'll definitely help in deciding what to get. Anyone hear about the Arch Angels before? Feels like a pretty stiff ski, not too wide either. Hopefully it'll hold up to the beating that I'll give it :D
