PM Gear Bro Bindings

I am trying to sort out what bindings to mount. I was about to make a quick decision so that I could get them Bro's set up real quick when they arrived and use them. But after talking to Splat I realize how special these babies are and now I want to get this setup spot on and ride it the way they were made to ride. I really want to take time and make this ski the shit. So I have been looking at bindings and have come across a few choices that I like and would consider using. It would either be a pair of Rossi/Looks, some Tyrolias and I have even been considering a pair of freeriders. I haven't had a chance to tour a lot, but I would really like to get into it, especially since I will be moving out to SLC next year. I am right around 5'11 and about 175ish and an advanced skier (level 6/7). Up to this point I have been riding at 10 DIN and haven't had much problems with pre-release, but maybe I should crank up the setting some with the new sticks. What are you guys riding with your Bro's? Anything that works better than something else?

I put silveretta pure freerides on mine ~ 1/2 the weight of damirs or naxos.
Only toured 2 days on em and they're one kickass light weight touring rig. It depends on what your primarily gonna be using these for. If your not gonna tour all that much but want to be able to, I'd say freerides although I think the new nx21 is gonna be a good binding and naxo is more tour friendly. Search naxo or damir for more info.

I guess the issue that I am dealing with is whether I should buy something/plan for the future with my new setup. Right now I don't know if I will be doing any touring when I move out West, but I really want to. Or I could just get a two piece set and if I ever needed to get a ski for touring just pick up another Bro. Because if I end up not using these Bro's for touring, it is a little bit of a waste to have them on. Better to save some money and get a normal pair of bindings.

8 to 9 Nine is high. Not positive but I belive on say LOOK P12 a shop tech would never let you out the door set higher than 7.5

Do you ride the Bro's? I am just curious about how much binding I really need with the Bro's. Have people been happy with the Rossi Axial 120 or a Look P12 on their Bro's?

How much binding you need is determined by you, not the ski. Axial 120 or P12 would be an excellent choice, I am running them on my Mantras and the work sweet. But if you don't pre-release at your current setting why would you want to crank it up?

Now that I have the Bro's I will most likely become more comfortable pushing the envelope while I ski, (if these skis turn out to be as awesome as everyone tells me). :biggrin:

i have skied freerides on an 11.5 din for the last year. it's worked out well but i'm moving to the lighter dynafit setup. the benefit of the fr's was the ability to use my alpine boots for resort skiing. anything with a din of 10-14 should work for you. ideally you'd be set at 1/2-2/3 of the highest din of your binding. i like to stay in mine, hense the tightening of the spring till it refuses to release w/o some real torque. my knees sometimes take a beating but they've held up so far. i change the din depending on what i'm doing and how i feel. enjoy the bro's.

1) Figure out what your usual DIN setting is.
2) Buy whatever Look or Rossi dildo bindings you can find that go up to at least 140% of your DIN.
3) Get them mounted on the recommended line.
4) Go skiing a lot.

Get Looks/Rossis unless you plan on using the Bros as a purely AT setup. Freerides/Naxos are good bindings for their intended use: BC skiing. But they're not meant to take the abuse of skiing every day in bounds. Sure people do that, but they're simply not designed to take that amount of abuse.

How did you decide "140%"? Is that just some arbitrary number? Why not 120%? or 160%?

Not to speak for someone else, but my guess is that it's to allow you enough wiggle room to (a) bump up the DIN a couple if you find you're prereleasing, but still (b) not be tapped out. Think Nigel Tufnel.

FWIW, I picked up a pair of Rossi Axial 140 WBs on Steep And Cheap last week to mount on my Bros, once they arrive. Obviously, I don't have any experience actually using that setup yet, but hey. I'm a couple of inches taller and 30 pounds heavier than you, though, so you might be able to get away with a 12 DIN binding -- it'd probably be lighter (more plastic, less metal), but less durable (ditto).

Because if you crank them down to 100%(10 din on a 10 din max binding) there is too much tension on the spring for them to work smoothly. Notice it says AT LEAST, so 160% falls in there too

A 12+ din binding ought to be fine.

At 335 sole length, 12 DIN bindings should be no problem unless you're really heavy. The longer the feet, the lower setting you need. Plus, my experience with Look/Rossi is that I can run 1-2 DIN lower than other bindings and still not pre-release.
