Booty question: Atomic M11,Beast 12 or...?

So.

The old XXXs finally gave away and it is time for new booties.

Some of the new models that i have been eyeballing are the atomics M11, beast 12, solly 1080s, Mojo 90s and well, everything else.

I am quite lucky that my feet seem to be relatively "normal", a bit small thoug, so finding boots that fit quite well shouldn´t be an issue.Weight is on the lighter side too (71kg´s)

The prolblem might be that i am trying to get a boot that should work for park as well as the normal riding. The xxx´s were good when they were a bit softened up for normal skiing,but in the park they killed the legs quite quickly (flex was something of 120).
Impossible?

I could try a boot with a bit softer flex (90-100)but it should :

A) Have chageable toe and heels (wich one´s have,couldnt find out?)
-The rockromping eats the soles really quickly.

B) Possibility to get manufacturers liners (like nordica is supposedly to have?)
-Aftermarkets are nice but jigging the shinplastic afterwards is such a pain in the ass,that ill pereferably go with the stocks.

C) To drive a bit stiffer skis (im103s,explosivs)

D)Spend a day in the park without crawling back to the car.

Eh?

If you have some first hand experiences of any boots like that,feedback would be appreciated..

Atomics suck. They're really cold and probably stiffer than you want for the park. I like my beasts a lot. Stiff enough to drive a lot of ski (explosivs/iggies), but not so stiff that your shins are screaming at you all season. Just try a bunch of boots on and go to a good boot fitter. Your feet might be too narrow for Nordicas (they have a pretty wide forefoot).

The new Rossis are great too, but the toe isn't replaceable...just the heel. :cussing:

Just curious.
The M11 was on my foot last week and is in the running with the Dolomite Z Pro 130 (a very nice old school design) and the Nordica Speedmachine 14.
The Salomon 10 has yet to be tried on.

But, curious about why Atomic sucks so bad.

Me too.

Coreshot,what about the stiffness of M11? Supposedly it is softer than the race booties,but how much? Any numbers?

As for the atomic´s coldness, im planning into investing in thermic footbeds that ill get on a fair price, so that should be such a big problem?

Fischer MX9...

Replaceable lugs, 100 flex on their scale, rubber insole for hard landings, great stock thermomold liner, etc...

I heart my beasts, but I'd get speedmachines if I were you, as the beast does not have a replaceable toe, plus the speedmachines have little grippy vibram things on them. I've been ogling the 14's in my shop for a while now. I believe they're roughly the same shell too.

Now sitting on the couch with my new,fancy Speedmachine 14s with thermics.

Feels suprisingly soft in roomtemperature compared to 1080´Pro(?) that was the other contender.But the transparent plastic stiffens up in the cold,if i remember right?

As a small suprise came out that my new shoesize is 24.5... And the last boot was 26..
Practically no boots of the stiffer models are made that small, or at least none had arrived up here. We men with tiny feet are a minority, i guess.

But.
Tomorrow it is snowtime.
Lets see how black the toenails will get...

Softer than the plug race boots? Yes, considerably (different frikkin world, mostly because casting your feet in cement would be softer than the plug boots I've played with). Completely unscientific the M11 to me felt close to the Lange Comp100 from few years ago though different (lower). T11 standards are pretty stiff, Lange130 like or so, maybe even a tad more.

A bunch of Atomics came with the heating sole thingy premounted last year (SX boots among others); can't remember whether or not the M11's had that.

As to durability I know nothing as I'm mostly in Flexons due to a ridicuslously skinny foot (and plug boots, though they fit, just doesn't work for me, I'm like 200lbs too light and can't leg press an F150).

I have the beast 12's...they have the translucent shell...and the flex does vary greatly according to temps....Much more than any other boot I have owned....

I was in the M11 last night, and it was one of the few non-race boots that felt almost as stiff as my old faithful tecnica explosions. Dolomite Z Race Pro was also pleasantly stiff.

The speedmachine 14 was softer by comparison.
Bootfitter dude insisted they were similar flex, and sugested that what I was noticing was RANGE of flex (which most boots today seem soft to me since I can easily drive my knee way forward of my toes).

Both of those boots seemed over-cushy in shell size and liners, and I had to down size in shell to get a decent fit.

[edit - Atomics reputation for coldness was blamed on aluminum in heel and toe that hasbeen removed this year. But, you gotta wonder about that cutaway midsole, which on a traditional boot is an air-filled pocket of insulation. OTOH, that rubber midsole must be nice when scrambling on rocks.]

FYI Speedmachine 14 is reportedly available for PSIA tools at $420 or so.

Ok.One day out with the boot.

The cold stiffens that boot up.A lot. Inside the boot felt like a flex 70 boot. Soft. Now outside, in only,like,-5´c, the boot started to feel a lot more like 110+ boot. I can only imagine what the boot feels like when it is -20c´...

Yep, the SM 14 was cushiest of all the boots i tried on, Doberman 130,tecnica 110magnesium something,M 11 , Lange 110,solly 1080pro, but i had to pick a full one size smaller.(well,those other boots were 25.5-26 and were just a tad big). But the heel retention was the best in SM14.

Nice feeling booties, have to say.
Lets see how they shape up in the next few days.
Felt first that i have to punch the shell in the big toe area and over the foot,but i´ll wait for few days and see how the liners pack up..

I don't know how much changed with the speedmachine liners, but the beast liners pack out quite a bit, so you should be fine.

Beast 12s...

...Another new Beast12 (24.5) wearer here. Can't believe how well the last matches my feet, ankles, & shins. Now I guess it's time to start looking for some Zipfit and Intuition shops :cussing:...well, maybe in the Spring...or next Fall.
*Has anyone experienced any differences in fit between the two...?
