I still don't know how you blokes shift w/ the left hand. Don't think I could ever get used to it... was quite impressed w/ my buddie in college who could drive a stick over here w/ no problems.
Speaking of which... are the clutch and gas pedals switched or is the clutch still on the left and gas on the right?[/jong]
That's still the same :)
Imagine yourself right in the heart of downtown Melbourne (the one city in the world where you put your car in the most LEFT lane to make a RIGHT turn) during rush-hour with a nice little car that has a stick on your lefthandside..
Funny shit! :)
Now imagine yourself in an alley behind a rental place in Kings Cross with the keys to a camper-van and the rental guy telling you: "It's easy, mate. Just hang a left at the end of the alley, through the round-a-bout and head north through downtown and across the Harbour Bridge." Then try to change lanes while hitting the windshield wipers instead of the signal lights.Quote:

Aaahhh, good times.
For anyone interested in the hot rod Lada, right-hand drive is actually pretty natural feeling after a couple of hours.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ............ .........................DOH!!!
My favorite type.
Roundabouts still shit on 4-way stop signs. :)
And it's perfectly legal to drive with a beer in your cupholder, as long as you're BAC is < 0.05 :D
I think we're missing the real point here, which is, how the hell did they spend 100,000 pounds(~$180k, if I have my exchange figures right), and end up with a car that still takes 7 seconds to go 0-60 and tops out at 135mph. And has the steering wheel on the wrong side. Who do they take us for, wankers?
I think shifting with the left hand is way more natural.
at least, I seemed to crash less.
I like keeping my good hand on the steering wheel while shifting. feels like more control
I'm calling bullshit on the £100,000 thing. I know the guy at Lotus who specified that car and he said they spent just over £20,000 on it and that it never ran right.
Roundabouts. You don't know the pleasure of a deserted wet roundabout late at night with a powerful rear wheel drive car to play with. Gifts from the gods are roundabouts. ;)

In Swindon. The fabled 'Magic Roundabout'. This is a true double black diamond of roundabouts, accessible only to those with mad roundabouting skills.
Who would pay that much money for a Lada is the question that is begging to be asked. Although they do make decent entry level rally cars, just ask Andrew Comrie-Picard badass Canadian rally driver. Werent they made in russia, or some part of the former USSR?
I was talking with Comrie-Picard at the Maine Forest Rally last year and he was saying that they made great entry cars, because they were so slow you didnt have to worry about burning through tires quickly, and you didnt hit things very hard. In turn, they were very cheap.

Lada is the John Deere of russia. they also make semi-functioning tractors and tanks. I drove one for a while, but never without dark glasses and a baseball cap, just in case someone recognized me. at least I never worried about anyone stealing the thing.
I'd love to make my first attempt at that roundabout at night, in a rainstorm, with a good buzz, fast, in a right-hand drive Lada.
