fixed for skiing
so i recently gave into the fixed craze and picked up a cheapo hack on the old ebay. anyways, as london is flat as hell, i don't really need anything else, even if i'm going for more of a workout ride than actually going anywhere.
i've been riding it for the last month, trying to concentrate on not using my front brake that i've got wired just in case. most of the time i can ride for about 30 minutes in traffic without touching it. those decelleration movement are SO ski like and when i went skiing last week i really felt my ski legs come back a lot quicker. also, the lack of gears has made me concentrate much harder on having a round pedal stroke instead of messing around w/ the gears. sweet.
fwiw, i'm running 48x16.

Yea, fixed is one of the best feelings in cycling. Definately ski-like in the concentration and anticipation categories as well.

Free heels and fixed gears. Yesterday, Stoney Wall and I did a nice ride on our fixies. The ride felt more like skinning than skiing, but my commute to work is very ski like. It starts with a long moderate downhill that ends in a 90 degree banked right hand turn. Needless to say, I don’t mind “carving a turn” first thing in the morning.
