Sunset was double overhead last Thursday and Gas Chambers was firing overhead Friday morning. Tapered fast but its coming!
Kinda sucks that October - April is best for both for surfing and skiing. Talk about conflict. Mother Nature needs to straighten that out. Maybe the trick is to summer (winter) in South America... hmmmm....

Clarification: my post implied that I was surfing double overhead at Sunset. I have no business being out in anything that big. Sunset was 20 feet Thursday, so I was one of the onlookers. Just watching is pretty damn cool though. I didn't go out until Friday afternoon, mostly Pupukea and inside Sunset. By Saturday it was much smaller, but those reefs have a way of spicing up an otherwise mellow experience.
"looky-loos" is the word i think you're looking for.
i was too scared to go out at sunset when it was 8 feet, and resigned to having my wits jarbled with 6 foot pupukea.
Sunset is fucking gnar- a deceptively looking big mushy waves that packs a lot of punch. I have an image very similar to this forever etched into my brain.
