i ran a cti brace for about 3 years after my ACL injury both snowboarding and skiing.
i had to ice EVERY time after skiing or boarding.
i went straight back to my DINs of 12... my bigger concern was losing my skis not release.
of course i blew out my knee playing rugby not skiing....
I usually free ski a 10 but after Acl recon think I ran 9 on that leg for the first season. I was on snow sooner than should have been but had commitments. Mid season was racing and ran 12 on the toe of old sollys on the good leg. Hooked a tip on top of a pitch and spun and chewed. No release just got spun. As it turned out I had the 12 DIN on the rebuilt knee by mistake. Knee was fine just chewed my shoulder. Bottom line, maybe start a little lighter than the norm assuming you've done your rehab well enough. Once you feel strong and confidant go back to usual settings.
BTW I had no brace on the knee and never have the rehab is what counts. I still suggest light for a bit just so the muscles get tuned in to the fast firing and coordinated movements again.

ps...if you do a search for acl* in "gimp central", you will find alot on this.
ski them exactly where you would if your knee had not been injured.
Rationale for this:
1 you don't want to pre-release and get inured that way
2. you don't want to ski tentatively know you might pre-release
Instead of messing with your DIN, work yourself up to your normal comfort zone/ usualy terrain gradually. Don't just go out and ski 40 deg slopes at full speed

5'10". 185 pounds. Moderately aggressive. K2 PE '05 169cm (yeah, they're short).
I think I'll run 10 DIN and the brace for awhile.
