Cute that we think it’s origin is us.
The origin is TGR even if the copy writer was just some shlub in a lift line hearing maggots trying to locate one another. I’m sure hearing someone scream “anyone got change for a nickel” in a lift line leaves an impression. They probably thought it’s the dumbest thing they ever heard and would be perfect for an upcoming ad campaign.
Just playing the odds here, but I would bet good money the writer heard it from the Simspons rather than in a lift line.
