Very sad and sorry to hear, vibes to the victim, friends/family and those there.
Yes, that’s right across from Opus (heading there Sunday) and that terrain trap that claimed the three souls several years ago.

Deceased is a CB resident, past Jackson resident Sarah S (spelling might be off on sarah).
Friend in jackson got the news while we were skiing targhee today.
RIP. It's a tough day for her jackson crew.
Sucks as always, I didn't know Sarah well but I do know her brother Steiny pretty well (he also lives in CB).
My wife was saying she has zero desire to ever stay at the Opus hut, it just has bad vibes with all the accidents over the years.
I think that was the 3rd fatal avalanche for folks staying at the hut. I went in 2012 for one of my first backcountry tours with some more experienced folks and skinning past the crown of an avalanche that killed someone was a formative experience. It's a beautiful hut in an incredible spotQuote:

Wow, absolutely brutal - 1300' width, ran down 3 gullies, debris spread over 2000'... basically an impossible search, especially for one.
Yes, terrain traps for sure. That slope and creek gully is notorious.
I'm guessing they were one-at-a-time but that it propagated above her. Hell, it also triggered a sympathetic slide almost 500' to the west.
We were scheduled to be up there a few days later (Opus understandably cancelled). Can't help but wonder if we'd ski that and be the ones. If we go back, I'm never skiing that damn slope. It's a perfect storm set-up.

Yeah - the comparison photo to the previous fatal slide on that slope is creepy - it looks nearly identical. Including the sympathetic release.Quote:
