I have a follow up next week but I'm seeing between 6 weeks and 12 months when I research recovery. Here's the situation.. Anyone had this injury before?
Dropped a knee into a very sharp sharp ski edge, gashed the outside of my left knee about 7 inches long and all the way to the bone.
Severed my IT band.
Had it reattached/sutured that night in surgery,
Stapled it all back up.
Gimping arund now......

What Harry said, holy shit. If I were to speculate, I'd lean towards towards the 12 month recovery timeline. This is much closer to blowing your Achilles than breaking a bone. It's going to take a long time for a thick piece of connective tissue like that to heal.
wow thats impressive I alwasy worried about skiing over somebodies dog in the BC but not my own leg, dropping knee was OP telewanking ??

Here are some details.5 MPH hit a stick under some sludge. If were going faster it would have been a non-issue tumble but because I was almost stopped my momentum tipped forward as one ski stopped and the other didn't, As my heel released, my toe pushed the friction plate sideways on the toe piece and caused the ski to go on edge, I dropped my knee onto probably the middle of the ski and slide it down the length of the ski. Blood shooting everywhere. Knew I was in trouble so I clipped back in asap and skid down under Red Dog at Palisades on one leg into the clinic with a nice pink trail of blood. I did not think waiting 5-10 for patrol was a good option. If I had on my Flylow pants, perhaps it wouldn't have happened. They have thick knees. My Kappa pants shredded like cellophane, Kudos to Granite Chief for the sharpish tune. The carpet in the patrol clinic has some nice new stains on it. Dunno if the pics will load but I'll try,
Wow! Thanks for the deets. That mush have been quite a site leaving a blood trail down red dog and into the clinic. I bet you got their attention real fast once you hobbled in. Looking fwd to any pics that can make it through the emoji defenses

Holy crap!
My dad had a similar accident when I was a middle schooler. Flat ground, barely moving, popped out of binding, ski flipped on its side and my dad went down on his knee. The edge sliced the outside of his leg right below his knee. No connective tissue damage, but he did cut a nerve. Doctor explained that the nerve would “find itself” and connect back together on its own.

wow aqs from the inside will fix those pants and IME staple removal is easy less painful by cutting down the middle with side cutters and picking out the pieces with a roach clip
IME the staple removal pliers they use do not move the staple ends in a perfect arc so the ends drag in the flesh and it will hurt
I'm gonna let the pros pull these. I tried removing some normal stitches this year and struggled getting under em.
Workong on a proper tatoo for the staples/scare. Might be a toe piece set to 18. Low Dins Kill.
Wow! You were not kidding. You sliced the fuck out of your self. I’ve had a similar opening on my knee , but it was from driving my car into a telephone pole. Not fun to see unobstructed views of your knee bones. lol
I agree on letting the pros deal w those stitches/sutures/staples.

yeah i usually leave the surgery to the pro's but when I had inserted a plate for spiral fracture tib/fib and removal of plate 9 months later so i wathed the removal once after insertion
said to self well shit i can do that on th second set of staples for remval so I just made sure it was healed and snip snip with small side cutters from IBM tool kit,
wash area and side cutters with alcohol if it does not sting the wound is closed
...and if it does sting, just grab your home stapler.
I would suggest maybe its not completely healed yet but IME staple removal is easy and so down there in Canada's 11th province with no HC maybe you can save $ ?
