Salomon Binding Hole Pattern Question

I know there's a thread on this somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. Sorry for the redundant question, but here goes...

I'm thinking about getting new boots that do not offer a normal DIN sole option. They are Grip Walk only.

I have a few pairs of skis with bindings that aren't GW compatible. To avoid re-drilling, are there any newer Salomon bindings that are GW compatible and share hole patterns with any of the following:

- Z14s
- STH16 Steels (really hate to replace these)
- 914s

Salomon was the champ of consistent holes for decades.

Sth2 changed the rear holes.
After that it’s a free for all.

The newest solly you could reuse holes from, is the STH1 model. The toe height is adjustable so I'm pretty sure that makes the WTR viable still. Someone chime in on that as I'm a DIN/alpine soles only skier.

Sth1 is the same as Sth16 which are not grip walk compatible. They do have adjustable toe height but the afd plate will not consistently release with grip walk boots.

Sth2 (13 or 16) uses the same toe holes as your sth16 and 914, but the heels are different. Z14 will have two toe holes that match Sth2, heels are different.

Personally I wouldn’t bother changing the STH. The STH Steel will work fine with grip walk or touring norms. The static low friction AFD works well with rubber soles as shown in Jeff Campbells PHD thesis. If you doubt it, do as I did and bring to your local ski hill rental shop, put your set up on their binding calibration machine and test for your self. Mine passed with flying colours.

I know a lot of people love GW, but it's more hassle than its worth when you have a big quiver, half with older bindings. I wish companies just used the hybrid rubber/AFD DIN soles like on the older Cochise boots...great grip and no compatibility issues.

Hey legends, so I wonder:
- can the new heel simply slide on the original STH plate and replace without redrillig for the new plate?
and/or
- what about a frankenstien setup - new STH2 toe with MNC so ISO 9523 is dialed with old STH1 (WTR) heel?
IDK, just f'in hate the new heel hole pattern not being interchangeable, stupid 1st world ski problem, wah

Keep in mind thy most of the STH2 bindings are now gone before making an investment/upgrade to that. The Strive does not use the same hole pattern either.

As much asi love Salomon, I might just have to jump to the Attacks. Tyrolia has been more consistent over the longer term with hole patterns.
