I have tried for years and have not been able to find the right beanie to wear under a helmet for my big head. This would be for ski touring mostly so it can't be too thick, but warm enough for temps down to 0F. Most thin beanies are too tight and/or too short. Does anyone have a good recommendation? The closest I have found is the Skida Alpine hat but its got a hard nub at the top that makes it a no go under a helmet.
I use a polartech 100 balaclava, polar tech 100s is pretty thin and stretchy
i got a patagoni r1 beanie for running and have been liking it a lot, good coverage/stretchy and pretty thin

I use a melanzana beanie or arcteryx toque. The melanzana is nice and thin although not super warm standing still it’s good when you’re moving

I have an older version of this smartwool beanie that I have been using for almost 10 years as my under-helmet layer. It's thin and warm. Merino is the business for sweat management and seems like it doesn't get funky as fast as synthetics.

I've been using Turtle Fur beanies for almost 20 years. Thin, wick like crazy, plenty warm, very comfortable.

Alpha direct hat is ideal for all under-helmet uses. I go 90gsm for breathability but if you run cold the 120gsm fabric is cozy as fuck.
I have the opposite problem (tiny head) and I like the merino beanies mentioned (Smartwool, Icebreaker) for under helmet wear. I ordered Superior Fleece and it was huge, so maybe the right direction for you? Plus, it's a great company.

I find the hood of my my icebreaker hooded baselayer fits better under my touring helmet and keeps out the elements better than any beanie.

I think I have 1 of each of these, plus I use a buff pulled up, and that works well too. (I use them for all my cycling trips too.) The billed ones look really dorky, but on cold snowy days, they work so well to keep the glasses clean. Plus hoods are nice, they’re right there anyway, and keep yer neck warm. I may have to get a cashmere one for my b-day.
I love the smith beanies they send with their helmets sometimes. Super warm and thin.
