Emigration Canyon Cycling Thread (Salt Lake City)
I am hoping this becomes a communication point for Emigration Canyon cyclists. I am confident Emigration Canyon is the single most popular road cycling location in Utah, and possibly in the Intermountain West.
Salt Lake City is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Yet I don't see Salt Lake City (or County) doing much for recreational road cyclists. Emigration Canyon Township repaved the road a few years ago and they have been taking steps to limit rockfall on the road, both of which are terrific. Meanwhile.....Salt Lake City chip sealed the entrance to the canyon (boo!). Considering the number of people who ride Emigration, more could be done and the cost of improvements should be shared with various city, county and state entities, which is no doubt a complicated situation.
I would like to thank Emigration Canyon residents for their safe and courteous driving. The vast majority of drivers give cyclists a wide berth. People commuting from Park City to the university should stay on I-80.
The primary purpose of this thread is to share conditions. 5 months of the year the weather is good and there isn't much to say, besides possibly needing a street sweeper to clear the shoulder of gravel after a rain storm. Or complaining that dump trucks hauling blacktop are leaving globs of blacktop all over the road.
At the moment I am wondering how much water there is on the road from the recent snow.
