Duke PT and rockered soles

Apologies if this has been covered- searchjonged it with no results.
So I have a few of the Duke PTs. I just did a practice mount on a junk ski.
My Scott Cosmos won't go in without grinding the sole down. It's way off- the toe won't properly engage and is's matched against the AFD which is in the lowest position. I then tried some Maestraeles which fit in and the AFD would move with a lot of force. So- maybe a mm or so grinding would do it. The Cosmos would need a lot more.
I'm not shy about grinding stuff, but before I do: Anything I might be doing wrong that would cause this? The mount was straight forward. And, I swapped toe bindings. I also removed and replaced the removable part. That front half of the binding is pretty busy, and I am wondering if somehow I screwed something up.
Thoughts?

With any height adjustable toe/AFD: with the boot installed and the forward pressure set, but prior to setting the 0.5mm toe height gap, make sure that you 'lever back the boot cuff' hard to ensure that the top of the toe lug on the boot is snug up against the underside of the of toe wings on the toe binding.

A long shot here, but...

Are you sure you set the toe AFD to lowest position? As opposed to highest position?
For different binding models, when adjusting toe AFD height, here's no standard for "righty-tighty / lefty-loosey" vs. the opposite of that --- and I forget how the Duke PT is designed. So you gotta look and figure out whether clockwise or counter-clockwise screw turning gets you to the lowest toe AFD height. Either way, I think you want the Duke PT's toe AFD to be maximally forward on the ski in order to let it ramp down to its minimum height.

With the Cosmos I can't even get the toe under the wings of the toe piece. The Maestrale goes, but super snug- barely move the AFD.

That almost got me- I initially adjusted like a tour or Baron. Then measured and watched it move. So, I have the problem with it all the way forward, or at the lowest height.

i recall reading about cosmos issues in mnc/id bindings at some point but can't find anything in search fucktion. i think it is one of those boots that is "technically" 9523 compliant but is only really intended for use in true tech binders. hopefully someone else can chime in.

The allowable range of bottom of sole to top of toe lug in ISO 9523 2019 is quite large - 28mm plus or minus 3mm - prior to that, I think it was even larger. So a modern touring sole can be anywhere from 25mm thick to 31mm thick (keep in mind the thickest part is not necessarily where the Duke PT AFD contacts the sole). If you're sure you have the AFD all the way down, grind the Cosmos sole at the AFD contact point and leave the Maestrale. The point of the moving AFD is it moves with the sole in lateral release.

That seems like the move. A bit surprising- Cosmos works fine in tours/barons.

So, with AFD fully lowered I can barely move afd plates side-to-side with significant force, the paper indicator provided with bindings would be torn for sure. I successfully skied with this setup last season, no complains so far. No pre-releases and I was ejected when I suppose to. YMMW.

It's little weird.
The binding- does not work for Cosmos, Maestraeles or Spectres. The Cosmos are the worst, and sitting on a flat surface, the top of the duckbill (?) is just under 28 mm.
I have an old pair of Cosmos, took a shot at grinding. They work, but I have no idea if it will pass my required patrol ski check.
Also, used a flap sander. Not pretty. Also- there were couple sparks.
I am inclined to just live with Barons, but if I decide to grind a new pair of boots, what's the best tool?

Bench-mount belt sander that's as wide as the sole.
