Gone way too soon for a man whose post-basketball career was even more impressive than the one he left on the court.

His charity occupies a floor in my office tower and I always enjoyed seeing him in the elevators and lobby. Always smiling, never too busy to chat or snap a pic with someone. Class act all the way.

I remember BITD when Mutombo and Maurice Lucas got into a little tet a tet. Luke’s teammates were telling him “give him the evil eye”. He responded with “that man has faced down a lion, he’s not afraid of me”.
