Vancouver Driving Question

I'm driving up to Vancouver tonight from Seattle for a concert at the Vogue Theatre. Because of traffic I was thinking of parking somewhere and taking the SkyTrain into the city. My two thought were Bridgeport and taking the Canada Line, or Scott Road and taking Expo. I know I'd need to go through the Massey Tunnel to get to Bridgeport, although that's a quicker train ride. Looks like the reversible lanes only give one lane northbound through the tunnel starting around 3:00 and I'm guessing that could make for slow going. Any suggestions or am I possibly better off just driving right into downtown Vancouver?

you can take the Alex Fraser bridge instead of the tunnel but it will probably also be slammed,

the sky train thru surrey will probably give you the most reliable timeline

Yeah, the Alex Fraser bridge does counterflow, too, but not as drastic as the tunnel. Looks like four lanes south, three lanes north when I'd be going through.

The Alex Fraser was great for about 6 weeks when it 1st opened

I drove literaly everywhere in the GVRD doing the HW thing, IME the best thing one can do is get on the rapid transit

taking the sky train in from the airport on a cheap all day ticket was eye openning compared to the old days of spending 40$ to ride in a ex-police car with half a million km's on it

The tunnel northbound that time of day will be slow going for sure. The sooner you can get on a skytrain the better / more relaxed you’ll be.

turn your radio to 730 on the AM dial to get traffic - most of it will be gibberish to you but just in case they report a crash on the bridge you can make an adjustment

Someone suggested that leaving my car in Surrey until the wee hours may not be a good idea, so I think I'll stick with the Bridgeport plan and decide between the tunnel or bridge based on traffic when I get there.

yeah that area of surrey does not have the best rep

you might also look into getting on the bus right after you cross the border at peace arch and leaving your car at the parknride ?

there are designated bus-only lanes so I think they are pretty dependable as to time

I think you’re confused. 730 is “all traffic all the time” - there are no opinions being spouted on it unless you think the ferry volumes are a covid conspiracy.

Weird ok. Coulda swore I tuned in on Monday as I transited from airport to Horseshoe Bay but maybe instead I was brainwashed by someone talking about having sex with Justin to beat inflation.

South Surrey Park and Ride, bus to Bridgeport (Riverrock Casino). Way safer than crackville Scott road and super easy back to the border. Bus lanes to beat the traffic.

Park and ride is on King George and the 99

lol, is that what cknw is like these days? But I'm serious that I think they rolled up the "all traffic, all the time" format. I've been driving up to Vancouver 3-4 times a month for a while now, and always tuned in once across the border, but sometime during the summer it stopped being traffic. There's even a reddit thread on it.

Yeah ok. No idea what CKNW broadcasts but XXX’r seems to indicate that 730am is Trump trash radio so that’s what I was alluding to - it wasn’t right wing opinions (or any opinions) when it was traffic. Sucks that it’s gone it was helpful info

Thanks for the tips everyone. We parked at Bridgeport and that worked out fine. Turns out all the problem areas yesterday were in Washington. Once we got to BC it was smooth sailing. It took 3.5 hours to drive there leaving Seattle at 1:30 and close to 2 driving home leaving at midnight. Crazy.
