New Solly Shift 2.0 comes out sometime this fall? Never skied or even fiddled with at a shop, so don't know much about, other they are supposedly a great cross over binding. Are the upgrades worth the price versus what close outs on the older model are going for right now? Setting my gear up for Japow!! Sorry if this has been brought up. My search skills failed.

Sounds like some good updates have been made, hopefully the V1 problems have been alleviated with these changes. I skied the shift for 4 seasons and never had any issues, but know plenty of folks who did. I’m now on the Marker Duke PT which is slightly heavier and has an extra step during transitions, but feels sooooo much better during descents. The shift never inspired much confidence, whereas the Duke feels just like a bombproof alpine binding. Corbetts just so happens to be blowing them out for dirt cheap right now as well.

I'm also on the Duke PT, now. The 1st gen Shifts were fine, but a bit finicky. The PT's are rock solid, but HEAVY.
I'm in the same place as the OP. I'm thinking of grabbing some Shifts for a new touring ski, but debating waiting for V2. The V1's are cheap and readily available right now. Undecided.
New shifts sound good but with the new cast 2.0 why?
Weight?!? Shifts are pretty light for what they are. I definitely know the PT16's are on my feet when I'm going up hill.Quote:

If you're willing to have a couple extra bits in your pack (which really isn't that bad), just get the Duke PT. Skies lightyears better than a shift, and I'd also prefer them over a cast any day for better power when skiing inbounds

The duke pt16 skis a lot better than shifts imo. They feel more stable with more elasticity. No, they don’t ski better than pivots, but they’re similar touring weights and 1/3 the castified price.Quote:

I had the Shifts 1.0, and i am one of the people who suffered from random pre-releases despite ensuring proper AFD height before each day skiing. I went back to CAST 1.0. I actually really liked everything else about the Shift bindings, but the pre-releases went from funny, to scary after the second or 3rd time coming out when i had no business releasing.Quote:

I feel the weight difference more than anything. They are very "dead" feeling, but I think that's because they're boat anchors. I had zero issues skiing Shifts, but I did get a couple of weird releases. Luckily it was always in weird bumpy runouts, etc. Never anywhere super consequential. I ran them 1 DIN point higher than my other bindings and pushed the forward pressure to end of spec.Quote:

I own two pairs of v1 Shifts (one Salomon, one Atomic). No issues of any sort with the Atomic pair. The Salomons used to pre-release a bit until I cranked up the DIN and the forward pressure - now they only release when needed. That said, that pair also suffer from the brakes no deploying fully and stopping the ski. Had a couple of instances where the ski has taken off down the hill. Fortunately it’s either been caught in a tree or run into a bowl and stopped. But could be really bad news depending on the terrain….Really hope they fixed that on V2.
i picked up a pt12 with 100mm brakes before they sold out. i think id rather save the half pound and get another pair of shift 10s.

Anyone happen to know if any of the screw lengths changed between 1.0 and 2.0? Was just talking to a shop tech who said they did.
Going to be mounting with QKs so kind of important. See on their site they only offer 1 set of fasteners for Shifts, guessing for the 1.0.
Planning to reach out to Salomon on this as well, but figured I’d ask here as well.

Does the toe adjust any easier on the 2.0 , I seen a former DH racer/ carpenter long time skier guy demoing some skis who has adj 100's of skis in his life have problems ??
i don't work at Salomon and i know the new AFD has different screw lengths since it no longer uses the slide-on cleat system. so of the five screws on the shift toe, two have changed.Quote:

Shift 2.0 as a two boot system? Not ideal and obviously you couldn't tour. Thinking maybe of a Shift binding on a pair of the wife's skis. She has a Dalbello alpine boot and a Dynafit touring boot, don't know the model but it is superlight. Just a simple AFD height adjustment?
AFD is improved, so yes simpler than before.
forward pressure is the same as v1
Is the new Shift available yet for retail? The 1.0's are dirt cheap now, but I think I'd like to go 2.0 (I've had two pairs if 1.0's with fiddly AFD's).
