My vendetta against the dishwasher

First world / off season problem for certain- wtf is w the dishwasher keeping the dishes / plates wet for like 3 days? I literally had children to unload this sucker & all I hear is “Dad….. it’s still not dry….”

Imma make this appliance my bitch - but I’m not smart enough, so a take it to the collective here.

It’s a new model with a dry cycle & I literally place 5 things in it or it won’t dry for a week.

It’s almost 2025, these things should have a jet engine….

Currently thinking of getting a counter mounted fan & using it door open when done.


Thoughts?

Why are you leaving clean dishes in for a week?

I feel so heard. We got a new, mid range, dishwasher when we moved into our new place a few years back and it doesn't dry worth shit. the instructions want you to use jet dry or whatever to help shed the water off the dishes because there is no vent to push out the moist air like the old models used to have. My ridiculous routine involves opening it when it's finished, shaking off any plastic containers and then closing the door with a towel jammed in the gap. I leave it for at least 20 min, take the towel out and then leave the door cracked overnight and everything is dry in the morning. If I leave the door closed after it finishes there's no chance it will dry. If I do that whole routine once the dishes have cooled down a bit it doesn't work as well either.

Dishwashers and refrigerators were once indestructible. Now they’re the disposable razor of appliances

What make and model? Some have an "eco" button which switches off the drying function to save energy. Some like Bosch pop the door open at the end of the cycle but you need to push the "auto air" button or similar for that to happen.

I had a similar experience last fall with a dishwasher I installed for Valentine’s Day the year before. Found a break in the heating element that was not easy to see until it was taken apart. Unit was hot and humid at the end of the cycle but never dried out.

Check the heating element’s continuity if you have access to a multi-meter, but for the love of god, disconnect power before diving into it

Mines a Bosch and this made me double check my manual. Mines not fancy enough for the auto door open I guess. It has a standard and higher temp water setting for the final rinse but that's it. Troubleshooting for not dry enough says add more jet dry....sigh

Handheld battery operated leaf blower. Dry in a jiffy.

Also works great for sweeping the floor out the open front door.

Must have man chore tool.

Open it, extend racks, and let it air dry for a couple hours? Shit dries on a drying rack in a couple hours. Or use a leaf blower I guess. I towel my plastic as I realize even my convenient robots have their limitations.

I've gone thru 2 bosch Dw's in < 1 year, they worked really good when they work including the drying but the problem seems to be pretty much at beginning of cycle, Bosch repalce the first DW on warranty cuz they couldn't fix it but now the new one went tits up in less than a week doing the same thing, how the fuck does that happen ?

Some of them were pretty ancient but Including the suite I have replaced 5 appliances ( 2 DW, washer, dryer, fridge, stove) in the last year so i must have pissed off the appliance gods

Must be those amenity gremlins that are flooding the Bulkley. No household convenience tech past the 60’s allowed up there now. Wringer washers next to the backyard chicken coop. As the good Dutch Reform God intended.

Simpler is better when it comes to household appliances.
When we bought our house it came with a Fisher Paykel dishwasher. I'd never heard of them, but it looked pretty cool, had two drawers, and was really quiet. It didn't make the dishes clean if you didn't wash them first.
After three years it quit working. I called the appliance repair guy we had used in the past and when I told him the brand, he started laughing.
There was a place in Vail that sold and serviced them so I called. The guy came over, looked at it and said it would cost $500 to fix. He noticed I was aghast and said "How long have you had the machine?" I said we have lived here three years. He said "If this is your first service call, that's not bad at all "
We bought a new Maytag for $350. That was twenty years ago.
Modern stuff has computers and all sorts of digital crap. Our parents had the same washer/dryers for thirty years.

you know it ^^ they still have the 8 kids, the oldest does the baby sitting also the dishes, the mileage on the 15 passenger van is a bitch tho

the warranty guy looks like a 64 yr old logger from burns lake cuz he is a 64 yr old logger from burns lake, buddy broke his back riding a quad to his feller buncher so he had to switch proffesions into to fixing appliances but he is actualy pretty good

At least an 1.5th drive from Burns to Smithers is maybe an incentive to the repair guy. Gotta get all the neighbours in on the travel deal to get a tech from ‘loops to come 1.5hrs up the N.Thompson valley.
No big churches here either, but then no milk quota for the faithful to capitalize on … but the local big sheep farm takes all faiths :D

Moved the 1977 refrigerator to the basement (beer fridge) and replaced the 39 year old water heater with a new-fangled "hybrid" heat pump water heater. Both the new fridge and the water heater are in the middle of shitting the bed. Places that sold us the failing appliances will not come service them (because they know they are shit).

The old fridge now contains all of our food because the new one has a mind of its own and cant decide if it should be 35* or 60* inside; same with the freezer...-1* or 34*. The old one keeps chugging along but it's a pain in the ass to run up and down the stairs all the time when cooking.

The water heater was a GE but they had so many compressor failures, they sold off that division so they wouldn't have to pay warranty claims. Fuckers.

i asked the tennant how old she thot the stove was (it was burning everything) and she had one 30+ years ago, all my 30 yr old appliance have shit the bed this year, i give the tennant my old appliances and buy new stuff for me or find slightly used stuff on FB, its not so much the money as the hassle of finding new stuff & wanking around

I heard the bosch tech support guy on the speaker phone dealing on the 1st DW and he said that rinse aid lubricates the DW to some degree which my tech had never heard before, so I started using it

Same thing here. We have a 5 year old bosch and the door spring failed. He replaced that, and then told us to make sure we are using rinse aid. Haven't had a single problem outside the spring.

Bought a Fisher Paykel almost 20 years ago - still runs well, not a single repair. Quality degeneration.
