Shameless Plug - Plucky's Board Game Cafe in Burlingame, CA

My younger daughter and my wife opened a cafe in May of this year. It's a fun and comfortable place to play board games, but it's also a cozy and welcoming cafe with great coffee and great food. No need to play games if that's not your thing.

It's in Burlingame, CA, just a few miles south of the SFO airport. Stop in for a drink and a bite to eat either before or after your flight. If you're local to the Bay Area, come visit any time. Hours are 7:00 am - 2:00 pm Mon-Wed, 7:00 am - 10:00 pm Thur-Sat, and 7:00 am - 4:00 pm on Sunday.

My office is in Burlingame, will try to swing by next time i'm actually there, though I avoid going in more than 2x a year if at all possible.

I was literally just there in July. My brother in law and his family live on Vancouver off Broadway. The first time I walked down to get coffee and ended up somewhere else. My SiL was excited when she'd heard I'd gone, but disappointed when she realized I hadn't gone to Plucky's which she said was by far the best cafe in the area. Your wife is definitely doing something right.

Next time we're there, I'll make sure to stop in again for more than a moment!

That sounds super cool. Theres a similarish board game café on Irving in SF - although I’ve never been inside. Next time, I’m near Burlingamegame I’ll definitely stop into Pluckys tho.

Maybe there should be a Pluckys Mini Summit planned for mags in the vicinity?!

Walk in and ask for The Suit and plop 5 pennies on the counter (after ordering a coffee and tipping well) If they look at you funny try 37¢ and see where that gets you.

I don't think the TRG inside jokes will go far at Plucky's. My family doesn't pay much attention to my secret online life.

Marcus Brody - that's super-cool that your SIL is a fan. My daughter and my wife were both psyched to hear about that! She should try to somehow reference this thread if she runs into one of them next time she's there. Michelle is the half-Chinese young lady with a big smile, and Mimi is the full-Chinese older (but still youthful!) woman with an equally nice smile.

The Plucky's backstory could go in the Fatherhood Anonymous thread. My daughter graduated from college with a CS degree right at the beginning of Covid. She got a software development job at Square and worked there for almost a year without ever meeting her co-workers in person. She didn't love working at Square so she switched to a much smaller startup. The Covid restrictions eased up and her job was less isolated, but about a year ago she admitted to herself that she just didn't like software and needed to do something different.

She had the idea to start a board game cafe, recruited her Mom as partner, and now a year later they're both working their butts off running a cafe. As far as I can tell they're having a great time doing it. As a father/husband, it's pretty great to see.
