Cool camping/backpacking woodstove on kickstarter

Full disclosure: the owner is friend of mine, but I receive nothing from posting this or his success. I think this is a cool as hell project that deserves to succeed.

Helping this project succeed helps people in the developing world feed their families, providing a source of cooking and heat while not endangering health and resources; it reduces pollution and deforestation. They are currently in the process of making/distributing 400 of the larger stoves to Tibetan monks.

Good on your friend...it looks cool. That said, it's often said that in marketing, timing is everything and he may want to reconsider given half the West is on fire.

it actualy sez on the site not to use the stove if there is a fire ban

but when is there not a fire ban ?

Yeah, my guess is you have to line things out way ahead of time, and taking it to market in summer is obviously better than winter.

uh, lots of times. I have been camping in May, June, and July this year and had a (legal) campfire every time.

I'm sure, and I don't know exactly what makes his different but there is obviously a difference as he's about to get patents on his design, and the loads of reviews seem to indicate that it's different. Edit: on the site it says "Please note that there are many single-walled (non-gasifier) woodstoves on the market, in sizes from tiny to quite large. Single-walled stoves are very different to use from a gasifier stove. We have tried many, and were unhappy with the amount of smoke they created and how much fuel they required. At first I was sus. But reading the details it is a great idea. Double wall titanium folding rocket stove.

What’s the target price?

I don't know what the market retail price will be, but I think the price might be as low as $50 for people who sign up on Kickstarter before the launch a week from now.

I’m in for two. Great idea. Twigs in a rocket stove are amazing. I still have a jetboil for ski parking lot ramen or tea. But when you have twigs it’s so easy. And eco friendly.

PS. Tell your friend to get ready for too many orders and production delays. I had a medium solo stove. They kickstarted the large Yukon and ended up with $1.5MM in orders. Took a while for delivery. But I was patient and it’s a great product.

That would be a steal if true. I guessed something closer to two bills, especially since it's titanium. Imma get one if it's close to that price cuz t it's a super cool product with a wide range of applications in the real(ish) world.

kickstarter goes live tomorrow

Bought the medium Ti model at $129. Would be nice to have the size in the description instead of just hoping I picked the right size.

Stainless Steel models are available as well, w a small at $69. Free shipping in the US.

They are 3/5 of the way there! Still some "early bird" rewards left.

Pledged $100 for a TI model yesterday. Not sure what size that'd be. I thought they were all the same size, with the understanding that the best deals would be gone first. But idk. Stoked for this thing, I think we'll use it a lot.

I think the ones in the kickstarter are all one size, the ultralight backpacking one, though when the product is fully launched they intend to offer larger sizes as well? At least that is my impression.

Welp it's confusing AF btwn the 2 types, 3 sizes, prices, and various packages.

What’s the better long term metal assuming weight is Not an issue?

I probably confused things by posting the website in addition to the kickstarter. I think the website has other sizes, but the kickstarter site doesn't?

But yeah, that's the way kickstarter works as far as the various packages, you offer limited number of various packages to incentivize people to jump in early. I'm not a kickstarter expert by any means, but every one I have seen is similar in that regard. It is confusing though.
