biggest bike descents in BC?

Not in any order, just thinking about some of the bigger mnt bike descents avail. Mostly down (not a big climb up or durring), Mostly singletrack (not just a long FSR) and easy/cheaply able to get to (not a big heli trip in)

1500m+ down, with minimal up

3) Back door in smithers (I have not riden) https://www.trailforks.com/trails/backdoor-3643/

4) Odds are RMR should be similar?

5) invermere has Hopefull at Panorama, but no easy way to the top. Also has toby creek adventures building stuff, but not that big yet. Swansea you CAN shuttle, but a) its beat up, and b) only 700m


What else am I missing?

Not an easy way in, but Della Creek... 2000m+ descent, I believe?

The Toby Creek stuff is pretty incredible, BTW. Not sure what they're opening as official trails, but some of the stuff we rode in the Trans BC was impressive (and fucking steep).

Access seems to be somewhat shaky these days, but Della creek near Lilloet is the biggest I know of. Over 7k vert, although you have to push up the upper part of the trail. Still haven't had a chance to ride it.

There's quite a few 1800m+ descents. But nothing else comes close

We did a variation of the 7 summits near Rossland that went all the way to the Columbia River. Can't find it on Trailforks probably because some of it is unsanctioned. But huge relief!

the annual Peak to Pint spancered by the Bulkley Valley Brewery in Smithers is this weekend,

a mass start at about 1700 meters at the highest point of the ski hill all the way to town at < 500 meters on Back Door thru town to the brewery where you chug a pint to finish and its pretty much all DH until you hit the tracks

HBM is on the other side of the RR tracks from Smithers so I got blocked by the train while 4 people caught up to me but it was fun

for awhile the winning rider was under age so they had to have a couple of root beer for buddy

if you ever visi t there are 2 brewerys the the Smithers and the Bulkley

Edit: I recently learned that becuz it was permitted under the ski hill’s Controlled Rec Area and master plan via Resorts Branch, things happening up there don't have to go thru the same consultations as on crown land so look for some great things up there

With mac ridge and emptying out bob gnarley or southern comfort you could get 6300+ feet of descent but you'd have go up the stoke climb and mac ridge. Possible to have almost 2 seperate laps as well.
The monster in Kaslo is 4000ft.
Yrs ago we rode silverstar to sovereign and then a trail into town. Not sure if thats still a thing. I think theres a trail that drops into lumby from silverstar?

" Soo long " on Desous mtn just out of Williams lake is all down hill 2700 ft

Its an easy drive to a fire lookout on the very top of Desous and ends at a P-lot down on the highway next to the Fraser river

The time i did it one of the group had brakes that were some kind of closed system (?) they completley locked up from over heating

Dirt diggler and al matador to dopamine in fernie are close to 4000ft
Mt7 in golden is 4000ft and the heli drop is/was an extra 45minute pedal/hike to the heli drop for 4000+ ft

Della...a couple of us on the forum have heli'd it, one person twice! but that's not an option anymore and was very short lived.

Beaverhead/Cedar House, Golden
Reco/Texas Peaks, Retallack
Toad Mtn/Powerslave, Nelson
Function 5000, Whistler (TOTW to Function)
AC/FW, Squamish
lots of goodins in Fernie too, but they lack the pure vert of others.

Diggler / matador in fernie aren't really vehicle accessible anymore - a bridge washed out. They're technically do-able in a high clearance 4x4, or via a very long drive, but I think that's probably stretching the criteria.

In nelson, the trails in the baldface lodge zone and then connected into Shannon pass make for about 5k feet of descending. All shuttle-able.

Mt Cartier in Revelstoke. 7k. As far as hike a bikes go this is a pretty easy one despite the total vert. All up then all down

Cartier is big but it's "just" approx 2000m and change. Also most don't bike from the lookout but drop bikes at 2470m and hike to the lookout from there

The BC gov has just thrown a chunk of money at the NEW Cronin trail, if you ever rode the old Cronin trail you had to wade thru a rushing knee deep stream at the start just off Babine lake rd, the new part of the trail runs from the Cronin mine site and fire lookout on a new piece of well done single track thru a cutblock to the fulton FSR all super easy acess by a 2wd. It will be an epic point to point, I did an out and back from the new p-lot to the mine on e-bike last week and it ate up 2 bars

In Revelstoke, you could ride Frisby Ridge down to UFC and Frisby DH, that gets you around 5,000' (in freedom units).

Actually trailforks ride log says I had 7,800 ft. Are you saying TF doesn't produce reliable stats??? : )


Also thinking back to my trip the 5620 trail has, well 5,620 ft of vert. Though it will be the most endlessly repetitive never ending series of berm, table, berm, table you'll ever ride.

Yah TF can be off. But that's a big error. What stands out for me is that of the Cartier downhill only 20m of that is up. And that's in the creek crossing which is now washed out.

There's a bunch of downhills in North Central BC (and not just Smithers) in the 1800m + range. Not sure what that works out to in freedom units. Maroon, the Sisters etc

It's just hard to get much above 2000m +

I just approximate it to 3ft per meter. I think the real number is 3.3. For Cartier the top is 8500 and bottom is 2000ft. Then you get another 300ft of vert on the trail below, so 6800 total. Not bad.

A guy in Palm springs here built a trail off the top of the Santa Rosa mountains. Combined with Palm canyon he claims it has the most vert of any ride in the world at over 10k. But Santa Rosa peak is only 8k so that means 2k of climbing along the way. There have got to be rides in Peru/Bolivia that are more than. 10k without the climbing.

Olleros S of Lima is the longest I know of. 3415m to sea level
