There are now over 200,000. It is an ecological disaster. At one point they considered introducing the Grizzly Bear, but common sense prevailed.
To add to the dilemma, it is cold in Patagonia, but not as cold as Hudson Bay, so the beavers fur is substandard and they spend less time hibernating and more time being beavers.
Cerro Castor, the ski area, has embraced this and their mascot is Krundi.
