Mrs. P needs a pair of rain pants for bike touring/packing. Obviously Showers Pass is on the list but they seem heavy/warm. She tried on the Patagonia Torrentshell but they weren't long enough (need 34"+ inseam so even the men’s were too short.
Since the are overpants a different men's model could work if they fit. Does anyone have any experience with pants that hold up in the rain?
[admittedly not a recent reference] I commuted in a pair from REI a long time ago — they certainly held up over about 8yrs
If it’s just wet, I’d be inclined to wear tights before a baggy shell tho. For me, the shells came out if it was cold AND wet. Or if I had to commute in some form of long pants.
My wife has the patagonia ones, loves em although if it's not raining they can get a bit heated.
I know OR makes some models of pants in both short and tall versions?
Worth hunting around on that site to see.
I've been very happy with my OR rain jackets and the few small issues have been a warranty
Rab has a new line of bike clothing that has longer pants (Cinder Kinetic). Of course the 34" inseam is the men's version, but at least it's a bike friendly cut
Honestly, for on the bike, I would recommend we both get rain capes and fenders. The challenge is while on a tour, once you are walking around town, buying groceries, etc. the cape is kind of ridiculous.
I was also a long time REI pant fan.
I’d wear thermals under.
Invariably the ankle zippers would fail and I’d get a free replacement.
The fit changed multiple times.
I think I’d want to try on, before any purchase.
