Also, I have Sealutions on the brain again. I actually like the shorter version better than my red XL so I did a little search and I’m amazed how many are for sale around the northeast on Craigslist right now. The closest 16 footer is outside of Boston though. Not convenient but priced right. There’s an XS in Glens Falls. It would be a very tight fit in that one but it would be so much sweeter to cartop…

Lake Welch in Harriman State Park. It features a pretty big beach. The yellow thing is to keep potential algae blooms away from the swimming area. Last year, they had a bloom bad enough to close the lake for the whole season.

Got a lot of paddling in this past weekend and got back out today - on the Hudson- put in from the Cold Spring, NY train station.

Somebody stuck a flag in the river. I couldn’t tell what it was attached to underneath. It was high tide-ish so maybe there’s a rock there that’s accessible when the water is lower.

This tugboat impressed me. By my count they were pushing ten separate barges upriver.

There is some cool marsh to paddle here but my timing was off. You need it to be low enough to get under the train tracks but high enough that the marsh isn’t all mud. I could feel the tide trying to push me under here.

I paddled out into the channel to get a little bit of wind in my face and went back north.

Didn’t make it all the way but got close to Bannerman Island. I was fighting the tide at this point.

All told I did a little more than nine miles in about two and a half hours. Good workout for sure.

Maybe I should have titled this thread “Sealution Stoke”. North South Lake isn’t much of a challenge but I spent some time practicing leaning it over in the turns. Rock solid. I really do love this boat

Very cool. I live on a 254 acre lake in Minnesota and mainly SUP with the occasionally canoe paddle. I'm very touring kayak curious now though since bought an inflatable "buddy" SUP that came with a seat and double paddle. I went out sitting and really enjoyed that vibe.
There's a Wenonah Canak for sale locally, which is a topped narrow solo canoe. Worth a shit? I don't even know where to start with the kayak market.
I have no experience with this 1/2 canoe 1/2 kayak boats so I can’t speak to that but I would say the place to start if you want a touring kayak is Craigslist or FB marketplace. If it’s just for your home Lake, the smaller kayaks would be ok but if you want something more seaworthy, you’re looking for a boat with two hatches and bulkheads. Some of them can be quite tippy so look at reviews on paddling.com before making an offer on a particular boat. It may take time but you ought to be be able to get a decent used one for $500 or less.Quote:
