aspen area accomodations advice

a good friend is tying the knot in aspen on december 3rd. i need some advice/wisdom/etc... the 'save this date' card that arrived a while back listed nothing but the most fancy and expensive lodging options in town- which weren't in my budget range.

i'm in my late 20's and all of these weddings are starting to get crazy expensive, and probably won't be getting any cheaper for me to attend considering i've moved away from the east coast. the travel expenses for this endeavor are shaping up to be kind of nuts, and it seems crazy to drive 20 hours instead of flying... but the monetary/time cost of driving versus the monetary/time cost of flying makes airline tickets an unlikely option. oh well.

the advice my girlfriend and i are getting is to share a villa with other couples at the snowmass club- which was the place mentioned by the bride. that'd be $400/night for a 3br/ba place. is this a solid option, or are there other things i should be looking into and possibly suggesting to folks as they begin to get serious about nailing down accomodations?

are there some loopholes or something i'm missing? oh yeah, what about lift tickets and stuff. can i sell body parts/fluids to help offset that cost?

as far as im concerned its not a wedding till everyone is wasted...your in your late 20s, you cant honestly be "too old" to stroll into town, and crash on someones floor?


i mean in reality if you cant afford it, but still make the trek and prepare to stay wherever that shows you really do want to make the wedding...

i dont know..

i just dont understand people who think its okay to have weddings places where most of their friends cant even afford to go...

good luck finding a cheap place to stay. That's the same week as the Aspen Artist Development conference. A big conference for music production executives. (Related to the organizer.) So a lot of the town will be booked up. Best to share a condo with someone, crash on someone's floor, (you're young,) or hit one of the motels further away from aspen mountain on main street.

Don't stay in Snowmass. There are a ton of cheap older lodges in town, try any of these.

If you can extend your stay, Highlands opens on the 10th. Always a good time and the ski company always opens a bunch of terrain at Snowmass that weekend as well. Womens WC starts the 9th, so some of the terrain on Aspen Mt. could be limited, but should still be pretty good.

Depending on were you are flying from, airfare should be mid $300.
