Mrs. C. wants a waterproof Bluetooth speaker for use outside, including at the beach and on a SUP. There are a ton of these things on the market. Any recommendations for/against?

i've got a jbl of unknown model and it has been great.
We have one of those JBL ones -- maybe not exact same model -- and have been happy with it. But we don't use it often enough to really have a strong opinion beyond "it works like a bluetooth speaker".
Did you tell her that no one at the beach wants to listen to her music?

Have a JBL Extreme and a small Oontz. Both are good. The larger JBL's are a bit bassy. My son pairs two JBL Flips and I think that sounds better than one larger speaker.
I’ve liked our Turtleshell 3.0 by Outdoor Tech. Decent enough sound quality for us and it floats etc. Holds a charge for a long time. And I think we got it for pretty cheap.
We have two Oontz - each kid has one, and they sound awesome for the money. Actual base mids and highs. Some of the portable speakers I find too tinny. Not sure about the waterproofness of them as we have never tested it.Quote:

I have the Sony SRS-XB32. Been super happy with it for outdoor duty. Long lasting battery and sounds decent for what it is. Gotten rained on plenty when I'm working outside and it keeps on trucking.

That said, those JBL's everyone's been recommending are also on par. You can't go wrong either way.

Top-rated on Wirecutter, supposedly just about indestructible. And only $90. I bought one for my wife (among other things, yeesh) for her birthday.
Can't tell you how it sounds, because I lost it. I ordered it from Amazon, opened the package and checked it out (it's quite small, like cantalope-sized if that), and stashed it somewhere so she wouldn't find it. And haven't seen it since. Did one of you guys take it?
I've torn the place apart looking for it, all I can figure is it got thrown out somehow.

I have the small triangular Oontz and it’s fine for something small but not even close to the Anker’s outdoor sound quality. We camp at remote trailheads, definitely not using this in a populated zone.
I've been using and gifting several the Cambridge Soundworks Oontz for the past few years. No complaints and good sound for the price IMO, especially when you pair two together for L and R stereo separation.
Also get her a pair of these. I've been happy with our pairs for the family and have gifted some as well. No one wants to hear other people's music in public spaces.

+1 on this. I've burned through a lot of shitty usb speakers and dished out a little more on this one that i found on sale and have been pretty happy with it. Decent sound, it seems to last for ever and I think the 3.0 can even charge other devices (I have the 2.0)Quote:

UE Boom or Big Boom puts out good sound at all levels. Very durable. I made a pretty cool paracord braided handle for mine, but you will want some sort of handle or small carabiner to hang it.
Sonos Move is incredible- works anywhere in my yard off wifi and can be hooked up to bluetooth any other time.
I don't think I would take it on a SUP or to the beach though- it is way too nice.
