www.priceline.com
Name your own price. Worst they can say is "nyet."
Tipp, I looked into priceline, but I have a specific hotel that I want to stay in. Otherwise, that would be a great bet.
I'm a travelocity fan personally...
Just try the following:
cheaptickets.com
orbitz.com
travelocity.com
expedia.com
Sometimes you can luck out and get good deals on the airfare on the individual carrier's websites as well.
check out the new
kayak.com
I second kayak.com.
Unless you're willing to give up the choice of flight times (and hotel choice in your case) all the sites mentioned above are pretty similar price wise. There may be $5-$10 differences, but nothing significant.
I've had the best luck w/ Orbitz.
Site59.com is a good bet too.
Where are you trying to go to?
Searching for the best price over a large time frame on travelocity is my favorite.
So far travelocity seems to be the cheapest. I'm thinking that doing the air + hotel combo on travelocity is a good start, and then doing the car by itself. Any suggestions on which car company is the cheapest?
generally Enterprise, but they sometimes locate off the airport campus.
Avoid Alamo, they're terrible. Budget is a decent middle ground on price and hassle, I use them not-infrequently. Dollar is so-so. Hertz, Avis, and National are the pricey brands.
Pete and Re Pete were in a boat. Pete fell out. Who was left?

no, you're on it - I'm a Hertz fan more and more. They're the best; if you can get em for cheap, it's the way to go. When I travel for work, it's Hertz, always.
Last time we were in Cleveland, we rented from Hertz. They were no hassle, great car, but a bit pricey.
We're looking at Kohala Coast, Hawaii.
Ha! Sorry, no specific help from this corner then. When you book a car on travelocity, they will at least show you whether the company is "in terminal," "by shuttle", or "off airport." Even if you don't use travelocity to reserve the car, you might find this feature useful. For hassle free, don't ever book with a company that is "off airport" if you can help it. Clearly, "in terminal" is best.
Also, FYI, you rarely have to pay or even give a CC to reserve a car.
Thanks Yoss! The car places at the KOA airport are right across the drive from the baggage claim. I just need to scour around and find the best price. Last time I was there, the rental car wouldn't go into drive after we filled up the car. We ended up leaving the car at the gas station, took a taxi to the airport and Hertz gave us a free certificate for next time. I was very impressed.
I've booked a few trips through expedia.
I ended up saving about $50 using the site as opposed to If I had called the airline/hotel myself.
However, I did not get frequent flyer miles or credit at the hotel chain that I typically use. So it wasn't really worth it.
