I have a pair of salomon Course boots flex 120 can the be softened up. I got a great deal on these from APD. The boots ski great and the fit is good, they are just a little stiffer than I would like them, any sugestions thanks.

In would not follow the advice in that thread. Cutting a v in the back of the boot is old (mid 90'2) Proper way to soften boots since 2000 (because of the new design of boots and skis) is to take the up cuff off the boot and extend the v cuts on the sides of the boots. I do this at least 20 times a winter.
DONT CUT A V IN THE BACK OF THE BOOT!!
I had the same problem with my Course 120's, they were a bit stiffer than I liked when the weather was real cold. I took out the screws that lock the hinge and didn't notice much difference. I then cut off the top of the cuff on the dotted line that Solomon inscribed and that made a noticeable difference. It was then a little softer than I wanted when i took a couple hits, so I put the screws back in and when I crank the velcro strap I can get it to almost as stiff as it was before. I think it was mntlion who recommended cutting the cuff in 5mm increments until it's where you want it which is what I would do if I was going to do it again, depends how much softer you want it though. My bootfitter recommended cutting the V in back and I'm glad I didn't.
Then why do some manufactures still make that v line in the plastic to cut, specifically salomon?Quote:
