Is there a good website I can go to in order to check out the local MTB trails? I know of Walker and Hall ranch, and Betasso- but what other local rides would you suggest? I'm fairly new to the MTB scene, but am willing to attempt to ride most anything.
Well I am not sure of a website, but know of some rides. Heil Ranch, up lefthand canyon is a pretty fun lolly pop. Not that long though. I ride from my crib in Gunbarrel via the trails around the Boulder Res.
(Foothills/Eagle/Sage/ Lefthand/ North Rim Trails) Other than that I hit up Nederland. You have the Sourdough trail and St. Vrain trail close to Ward. Supposedly there is a trail that comes from Ned and meets Betaso's network, but I haven't ridden it. There is also the fun playground of loops by Magnolia, which is fun to take the bus from Boulder and ride back to town. There is a bunch of sneak trails that get you back to Boulder, but you usually have to go with someone who knows them. I have ridden 2 of them, but have no idea how to get to them after riding the blue trails. I would go get a map at a bike shop, that has a lot of the trails on it.

There are indeed a bunch of commando trails between nederland and betasso. I rode it once with a knowledgeable dude, but it has been 5 years...I went back and tried to do it again on my own last summer and got completely lost. You can link dirt for all but a few road sections, but unless you know exacty where you are going or are with a local it is very difficult.Quote:

Getting up to Nederland on the bus is nice, the worst thing that happens if you can't find unmarked trails is you have to come down either Magnolia or the Canyon itself...which can suck pretty bad given drivers. There is a shop in Nederland in the train car right in the middle or town and they have a good map, as go many places in Boulder, and then be prepared to do some adventures off of marked trails.
Speaking of...any of you suckers up for after work rides in Boulder area? I just got a new bike and I work up in Boulder (though live in Denver). Hit me up if interested while the weather is still ncie and the days relatively long. 4:38 Boulder Station to Nederland...in Ned at 5:08.
Once I get my bike, I'd be up for some after work rides. Probably next week or the week after... a couple guys I work with are probably in too.
www.mtbr.com usually has good trail reviews. I bought a Falcon book at EMS with trail descriptions of the Front Range. Lots of good stuff out towards Golden like White Ranch and the Red rocks trail. Sourdough and Buchanan pass are good too during the summer when its hot down in Boulder.
