BMT 109 mount point?

Getting set up on some BMT 109s 176cm. Sold my BMT 94s, and had those moved from on the line to -2 per wildsnow recommendation and enjoyed them there. About to ship the 94s and was noticing that the mount line for the 109s are at the same position as the 94s. The only things I've seen online regarding mount point for the 109 is from a Blister review where they were sent to the tester inadvertently at +3, skied, then moved to +0. Reviewer seemed to like them on the line, but this was coming from being way far forward.

Has anyone experimented with mount points at all for these? Just curious before I start drilling. Thanks!

I had mine on the line and was happy with it, but didn't tried another mount point ...

Not exactly answering your question, but my 94s are mounted at -1 and my 109s are on the line. I am really happy with the recommenced mount on the 109s.

I went -1cm on mine as my everyday ski is a Katana with it's crazy -13cm mount, and I wanted them to ski similar.

I think I buggered up and I'm gonna try move the forward a bit.

When I'm skiing mellow pow, groom, or any predictable snow the BMT ski great, but on steeper snow or variable I find the tip hooks me across the fall line a little, the ski doesn't like to drift on me at all. They are very sensitive to for/aft weight distribution and have a small sweet spot.

My theory is that I'm skiing then with a soft boot (hoji tour) and I can't ski that as forward/aggressive as I can on my Katana's with alpine boots and thus I'm not putting enough power and weight into the tip, to let them push and drift though the snow. Has anyone (regardless of ski) found the have to mount father forward for softer boots?

I find that the line is money on BMTs.

I have not seen/read Wildsnows review, but it seems a bit excessive to mount at -2 on a full rocker ski with the rec mount point at -10. I would def not do that. Then again I am 175/66kg on 176s - so perhaps bigger riders who size down need (even) more tip ahead of the boot.

Hell, I think that Völkl should consider re-designing the Katana VW from its current mount point at -14ish to something similar to the BMT, aka -10ish. I really enjoyed my KVWs, but in the end I found the mount point to be too far back, even mounted at +2 from rec, so moved on from them. -14 is just rediculously far back imho.

Bump. I may need to go +1 for hole conflicts, not sure yet since I haven't settled on a binding. Anyone mount at +1, or more, and have anything to say positive or negative? Gracias.

I have not skied the 109 but i have 94s and 122s both +1 and they ski great

I first mounted my BMT 94 187 at -1.5 ish and I hated them. I went +1.5 and they are great. Based on that I mounted the BMT 109 177cm at +1 and the ski felt felt short. Then I got the BMT 109 187cm and mounted it at +1. It's awesome.

+1 is great on them, I have my 94s at +1 and I love them.

I am re-mounting my BMT 109 with nice bindings from the kingpins I got them with. The kingpins were at +1.5 and were good. Do I go with +2 or on the line? I'm not sure I am man enough to handle them on the line.

They will be great either way. I've skied the 186s at both at rec and +1.25 and either is fun/great - though I prefer the most forward mount point, 176s on the line that are great. I would go forward if you sized up, and consider the line if you are on a shorter length. They do have some noticable bending spots (not quite hinge points) that could be affected by where you mount them, but if your heels have adjustability then you could easily mount them so that the toes can be remounted if the new mount is not to your liking.

I think Smoothy mounts his at +3 - I can't recall, I asked him on insta a few years back, but it's been a while. He stills skis them alot though - pop him a pm.

I ski the 184 katana on the line and I love them for resort and shitty backcountry conditions. I guess the BMTs can't be more than the katanas.

Is there any difference in binding delta/ramp angle between the kingpins and the new bindings? If it’s a smaller delta then the kingpins at +9.5mm then moving to +2 would be a smaller change to how they ski currently.

The recommended line is -10.4 so moving it forward is reasonable. I like mind on the line but everyone is different.

I am mounting Vario 2 bindings. The plan with these skis is to do winter steeps and couloirs that will give me brown shorts. I have high hopes and medium skills.

What does -10.4 represent?

What is the downside of mounting too far forward? How do I know it's too far forward? I have bonafides and elan Olympus Mons with demo bindings. If I go negative they become too hard to turn. I never found a downside to maxing them out forward.

I had the 184 VWK at +1.5 and loved it. I just mounted a 186 BMT109 on the line with Raiders, which I'm skiing tomorrow. It 'looks' perfect to my non-calibrated eyes.

katanas are a fair bit torsionally stiffer, BMT's are a fair bit smoother - noticable out back if you get back seat in shit snow. Don't ask me how I know... ;) Neither is demanding though. VWKs are prob superior for clydes, though mounted a bit forward - their mount point is too far back imho - mount +2-4 imho.

the delta difference is 1mm between kingpins and vario2.0s. That equals about 2.5 degrees and will be negligible.

I’ve been avoiding that thread because I knew it would mess with my head and make me question everything. Well, I finally went through it. My first thought was that my VWK with Shifts might provide some great insight into why I can ski them on the line. But, of course, since it’s not a pin binding, the effective delta varies, so I’ll have to measure it myself.
From what I gather from the linked thread, if I go for a center mount, I can shim the toes before redrilling. In the end, redrilling isn’t that big of a deal anyway.

If your BMT and VWK are similar sizes (i.e. 184 VWK and 186 BMT) and you like the way they ski, why not consider mounting them in a similar position on the ski?
By "similar position" I don't mean based on pull tape from the tip or tail, but rather based on the wider center portion of the ski. Relatively speaking, the BMTs have more tail behind the wide center portion but similar tips. That's my plan with 184 VWK and 186 BMT122 - the skis are remarkably similar in size except the recommended Volkl Mount point is in a different spot on the wide portion, and the BMT have a bit more tail (although rockered and tapered).
