What to do, broke the Superlight, buy a Heckler on crash replacement???
So, the Superlight swingarm is toast :cussing:

Options
- $100 for white powdercoat swingarm from SC matched to my 4 year old ano SC front end, ugly but functional
- $450 crash replacement powder coat Heckler, thinking orange
- $550 crash replacement Heckler, Ano Black
Concerns
- With swingarm option I'm throwing money at an old frame, bearings have pressed a shallow groove into main triangle over time, i tried a new pivot kit this year but couldn't keep the new style axle tight because of this, went back to the old, workable but a major concern for longjevity
- Do I want an SC anymore, problem is, this is cheapest option
- I like anodized frames, this is what I really want, but are they worth the extra dough - opinions?

get the black ano heckler if you wanna be good to yourself. 100 bucks and getting just what ya want is worth it.

or... get the orange one and be happy cause it rides just the same and you saved a hundred bucks. the orange is pretty fresh actually.

don't bother with the swingarm. sounds like the frame is beat and really the superlight is old news. people will go for a blur at this point (i'm thinking in terms of eventually selling your frame or whole bike). the heckler is still a pretty stout 5 inch trail bike and should sell just fine if and when you decide to go there.

Depends if a Heckler really suits your needs

A buddy swears by his Heckler for freeride and hard trail play'n but bought a Blur LT as his Aggressive XC bike. I know most people on here probably wouldn't think of a 5" bike as freeride, but his skills give him some credibility ;) If the Heckler suits your needs, get it. Personally, I'd like the Nomad :biggrin: or even a blur LT, but I'm not really into single pivots. The Nomad seems like the do it all long travel bike. We'll see. Heckler's are definately well proven with todays shocks.

As far as ano goes, I love my ano ID frame. A light wash and it looks brand new. Not a scratch on it after a few tumbles even. I'll definately look for ano frames in the future. I also like the simple elegance of ano, but I'm an engineer.

Yep my top tube on the new AS-X has a ton of scratches on it already from my knee armor knocking into it while pedaling. But I still like my poo brown color better than black! :D

Froz--I'd go with the ano Heckler...it's a great bike from what I hear (I've been on trail rides with other riders on them and they look killer). My FXR is single pivot, 5.75" rear, and I really don't think there's a better trailbike option out there than a burly single pivot 5-6" rig. And now that the Heckler comes with a DHX...that's just MONEY. Way better small-bump compliance than the 5th Element that used to be on those frames...and still a fantastic pedaling platform.

Forgot to mention that this replacement frame does not come with a shock (not quite as good of a deal as it originally seemed but it's the cheapest frame option I've got, I can only purchase a Superlight or Heckler under this option, no Blurs). So I'll be using my non-stable platform Float R for the time being. Bike would be built up more to the XC side than the trail/ light free side. Don't know if the Heckler pedals different than the Superlight but it hasn't bothered me over the last 4 years.

I'm pretty much an XC rider through and through but like to try and get onto logs and ride the occasional skinny when available, still not much of a hucker, no armor in my bike bag. I'm also fairly big at 6'1" and around 185 so I'm hoping the Heckler will fit the bill for the type of riding I do.

At any rate, I miss suspension. I rode my completely rigid steel single from Mill D parking for the full Crest loop today. Was feeling good all the way up the road and up to the final straight away on puke hill and then bonked hard and had to walk a bit, need more sleep and a plush squishy with gears to get me around.

If you want to go more burl, Supergo still has Weyless XP frames (basically a Bullitt) for $220 with no shock.

Although if your last bike was a Superlight you're probably looking for something less burl.

I would go for the anodized Heckler. You're still a few hundred bucks ahead of the game, as opposed to a non-SC new frame, plus the ano finish is so much more durable than the PC.

Also, I have a new Propedal Float R that will fit the Heckler. Will the Float off a Superlight fit the Heckler?

That's not all that big... I have a friend who is about 6'3" or 6'4", probaby 220-230 range and rides a Heckler for his XC bike. He's taken it off some pretty big drops and hasn't had any problems.

Word...

I meant big for the Superlight, just starting to think I may have been harder on that frame than I realized. I don't have any fears about hurting the Heckler. Santa Cruz indicated that the Heckler was actually made for the Float R 2" stroke. Obviously stable platform would be nice and longer stroke even better to get full travel out of the frame but what I have would work in the mean time.
