...for $975 - complete Dura Ace, new in the box. This is listed on ebay currently but I emailed the seller and he said I can buy it now for $975. Is this too good to be true? Hell, the Dura Ace alone must be worth that! Has anyone had an experience buying direct from the seller vs. bidding on ebay? Is there anything I should be aware of?

Don't do it, it's obviously a scam.
Here's what that guy did, it happened to me once too. He somehow hacked his way into someone's ebay account, probably changed the password so the real owner couldn't log in (also happened to me). That's why he wants you to email the address he posted instead of use the ask seller a question link, otherwise it would go to the real owner of the account. He can't change the email address on file because it sends an email to the new and old email addresses.
I only found out because ebay emailed me directly and told me I needed to get in touch with them about my account.
Damnit that sucks!
I was all psyched but really knew it was too good to be true. Crap, now I gotta come up with another $1,500+.....

You could always use the buy it now, but refuse to close the deal unless you get confirmation from "ask the seller a question" and from ebay that the account is legit and in good standing.

Interesting ebay market out there for Lance ridden bikes - wonder how many are legit. I liked this one a lot: "This model used by Lance Armstrong in the 2003 Tour de France. Excellent condition, never been raced."
The system was hacked. I found the ebay ad and it looked fishy. I looked at sellers other items and there was no way it was legit. I did a quick search and contacted the seller by phone. It is a great price for the bike so if it was legit I wanted it as well. Any way the legit ebay account had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned the bike. The person freaked out but was thankful and is dealing with ebay now. The person wanted to say thanks for noticing and making a comment about the fraudulent auction. It is a retired elderly couple from Oklahoma.
Somebody hacked your TGR account and has posted things for sale in a forum you never see. Even though you are still logged in and posting here.
See? It could happen and it could go on for a while before you found out.
