Sometimes when I am rolling my bike beside me, my cassette engages and moves the chain/pedals. It doesn't always do this or do it for long, but I know it shouldn't be doing it. What is wrong? I am guessing my freehub is partially siezing. Any solution besides a new hub?
It could just be sticking where the freehub and the hub body connect. just put a wd-40 soaked rag around it and wipe all the grime away. It's happened to me a few times.
edit: you could also put on a new freehub, and not have to buy a whole new hub.
If you have the tools, overhaul the hub (take it apart, clean it, and put it back together) I don't think a new hub is needed.
feeehub body is going, Hub is fine, remove, LIGHT lube and start saving up around $30-50.
tools: cassette remover, chain whip, 10, 12 or 14 mm allen key. light chain lube (dry lube not wet).
