Prophet 600?

Seen the reviews here of other more exotic prophets. haven't been able to find a bad word about any of the bikes in the range.

Is this a good home in which to invest the ~$1500.

I've out grown a Rockhopper hardtail and a selection of other rigid mountain bikes.

Local Seattle trails mixture of single track, forest roads old rail grades etc. A long time ago I road raced, time trialed and track raced at national level but am pretty much clueless when it comes to the finer points of mountain biking.

From what i've seen/heard overall it's a great bike for the money. One of the reasons you may want to consider at least the Prophet 800, is the use of cable disc brakes, vs. hydraulic brakes on the 800(and above). I've felt the difference, and it's fairly significant. BUT, you really can't be too picky with a bike in that price range, otherwise it's very solid.

I have the 2000 and it is great

upgrade the brakes (as above) and the SPV stuff rocks.

still has mavic rims (nice) and the dual controls are nice,
but ya do the brakes to Hydro's and LOVE it

if it helps... when i was recenlty shopping around for bikes, i had decided at first to go with the prophet 1000 because the front shock is suppose to have a noticeable difference in bobbing, i.e. less bob in the 1000 and up. (i ended up with the 2000 cause i was able to get a deal, but the 1000 is what i was going to go with).

I have the six hundred, its pretty nice, I just upgraded the wheelset to the crossmax SL after my minor taco. I had trouble with the front deraileur in the begining until the LBS Said i bent it, but it never really shifted right until i Upgraded to the XT.

The E type derailers suck, Wish they bike came with another option.

Rode one yestereday - loved it - bought it - rode it this morning loved it even more.

Front deraileur not quite right hopefully just needs fine tuning.

where did you buy from? hope it was alpine hut on 15th.

come hit tiger with us one of these evenings. also south seatac is pretty damn fun for an after work spin. good trail network and a big variety of stunts too!
