Ski Recommendation for Saudan Couloir Race April 13th

Hey guys,

I was wondering what ski you guys would use/recommend for the Saudan Couloir race in April on Blackcomb. Maybe a list of multiple choices based on possible likely conditions in mid-April. Me and a friend will be in the amateur division, hope to see some mags and have a couple (million) beverages after. Seems like the race will go to the bottom of Jersey Cream which I found a bit surprising, guess there will be a substantial portion of traditional GS in addition to the couloir portion, wondering how this might factor into ski choice for some of you guys. Thanks for your time.

GS gate set would lead one to believe the correct ski would be a mono ski mounted telemark. YMMV.

Course goes down blowdown. I'll be on GS skis, or maybe my 188 x-drive 88 if the top section is slushy/bumpy. They haven't groomed the couloir in 15+ years and it's a lot narrower than it used to be. Wouldn't surprise me if they didn't end up grooming it to be honest.

word on the street is groomed to the top of the moraine.

I'm doing it on one ski, and a snowblade mounted to my air cast. And Rob Stokes gave me some arm crutches, so bigfoots on them.

Hartel, Caverly and Hilary raced snowblades in the McConkey cup yesterday, in uniform. It was awesome!

This is the only answer. Snowblades with pivots. Rap in from the start gate while drinking JD then saucer through the finish.

Who raced this today? What skies did you use?
I had my money on Stan Rey, but I though Robbie Dixon would have a strong time. Dixon skied out with 3 gates to go.
I saw some classic Whistler names on the results list.

They’ve groomed that run before? That is insane. I’ve only been down it a few times, but never thought of it as a potential groomer. Damn.

Y’all are owned by Vail now. No way it is groomed. That company does everything it can to cut costs and make money.

Its funny. I have watched that segment countless times, stared deeply at this exact photo for longer than I'd care to admit, and recreated a saucerboy costume on multiple occasions.

This is the first time I realized Shane mounted Pivots on his blades.
