Interesting new Visa/Mastercard scam
Much smarter and more effective than anything else I've tried, I mean, seen.

I was just notified by my brother, a consultant for VISA in the Bay area, that there is a new, very tricky scam going on.
A caller from 'VISA' or 'MC' asks if you've had any fraudulent charges on your card. They give you some info about an 800# you can call, their ID, some tracking code, etc. They also state they are starting an investigation on your behalf for some questionable charges.
To "ensure you are in possession of the card" they will NOT ask you for the card # (they've already got that), but they do ask you to read the 3 digit security number on the back of the card.
With this they then charge your card $497 or so dollars - just under the $500 flag set up in most systems.
ADVICE
Never give any information on your credit card to anyone who calls you. Not front or back.
