Head Kore 93 thoughts?

Anyone ski the Kore 93? Especially looking for EC feedback for hard conditions. I've seen the leftcoasters review of the 105 and I came away less impressed. I did a little Excel spreadsheet ranking a bunch of skis based on my interest in a ski geared more toward camber and less rocker, fairly narrow (<100), medium sidecut (<21m), longest available length (>188) since I'm on the taller and heavier side, and pretty stiff flex. The Kore 93 came out ahead of everything else, and it seems like a lot of reviews love this ski. I demoed one over Thanksgiving, but the longest he had was a 180. I liked it, but I think I really missed the extra ~10cm. The others I compared on my spreadsheet (chime in if I missed something):

Thinking of doing a P18 and Si&I setup on it for 25% touring, so the lightweight of the Kore is attractive.

I actually just skied these for the first time today, albeit in a 180. I think the construction has a ton of promise; smooth and quiet on what little snow we have in SW CO (scraped-off manmade, sluff with some boilerplate mixed in). They didn't feel too light for aggressive skiing compared to some other carbon wunderskis, and they're friendly without feeling lazy. Can't compare it to any of the black crows since i haven't skied them, but i thought it was more lively, lighter (obviously), and more stable than the enforcer 93. And i still think 17.6m is an asinine amount of sidecut for a 189, but it performed pretty consistently in a lot of different turn shapes, i.e. was happy making quick short turns, but didn't complain when i laid it over and brought it across the fall line.

Corvus at 109 and Atris at 108 seem like outliers. I wouldn't put any of the Black Crows you listed in an "EC Hard conditions" category akin to the Brahama/Enforcer/Kore93. Camox, sort of, but it's more like the Blizzard Kabookie. The Orb would fall in line with your desire, but I haven't heard raving reviews.

Something similar to the Kore would be Fischer Ranger 90/98Ti. If you're wanting a bit more mass, maybe also Praxis 9D8? Fischer Pro Mtn 95,

Does it really only accept Tyrolia bindings?

I got a demo of the 189cm Kore 105, mounted -1cm. I'd trade my 193 enforcers for them in an instant. Very solid for it's weight, versatile soft snow ski.

dont discount the head monster 98...184. works great for big fellas, great grip, damp, no speed limit. also took the maufact. recomm of mounting +1. excellent on hardpack....for even firmer i go with dynastar speed zone 12...182. - all here in Penna.

Monsters were some that I meant to look into and haven't yet. Thanks for the reminder.

Anyone get more time on the Kore skis? 93 or 105? Lots of good skis out there these days, Kore, Enforcer, Rustler, etc

What am I missing here--do they think they are going to sell more Tyrolia bindings this way? Here's what the Head website says:
Please note that the selected HEAD ski can only be used in combination with certain HEAD or Tyrolia bindings, which need to be mounted, adjusted and serviced by an authorized sporting goods retailer or authorized technician. Warranties will be void if the bindings are not mounted, adjusted and serviced accordingly.

The right of revocation does not apply to skis and bindings which were mounted and preadjusted in accordance with your specifications and which cannot be undone without damaging the skis (e.g. skis that have already been drilled in order to mount the bindings).

Anybody else try these yet? Has anyone tried mounting any other type of binding on it?

I contacted Head about this a few weeks back. They said as long as your binding mounts within a specified range it will not void the Warranty.
I'll PM you the diagram, but It wouldn't hurt to reach out to them again to confirm.

I agree the Corvus and Atris are outliers, but to answer your main question, I skied the Kore 93 (183) for the first time this weekend. Not a ski that I am enamored with at all.

I found it to be less than intuitive. I ski Bonafides(180)/Cochise (185)and Mantras (184) as daily drivers. The Kore's strengths were in bumps and PSIA Short radius turns and its weight. Letting the ski run, it felt twitchy. It definitely felt like a ski I couldn't drive like I would the others as well as it wanted to be skied in a more neutral stance. I much prefer the feel of the volkl/blizzards. I hoped I would have enjoyed the skis as I had a pair of monsters years ago and they were some of my all time favorites.

Did you try the Volkl BMT 109?

I just grabbed a pair of 189 Kore 93 on sale. Intended use : Resort use, as a all-mountain-one-ski-quiver. It will se a lot of groomers and the occasional off piste venture. Nothing deep, no touring.
The mounting point seems very far back, and I'm considering a +1 or +1.5 mount. (That's also what Blister recommends for the larger Kore.)
Any thoughts ?

I bought a pair of 189 Kore 93s late last spring and have likely put close to thirty (30) days on them. Mounted Pivot 14 on them (on the line) and the shop guy did say that there was a problem. Something like he drilled into a honeycomb structure in the base and some of the screws wouldn't hold. He's an experienced older d00d and made it work, though. No issues at all, so far. We were unaware that these were bindings-specific.

These are really fun skis! They shred light pow / freshies, maneuver very well in the trees, deal with light chop with aplomb, and carve nicely. But they have some serious limitations. Ski 'em within their wheelhouse and you'll be happy. At 6'0" and 195 lbs, I am experiencing no issues with the recommended mount point. Pretty much perfect for me.

Problems:

They suck in very hard snow- Edge hold in icy conditions is unsatisfactory.

The lack of dampness make them "jumpy" when travelling fast on firm groomers. Very noticeable. Not unskiable, mine you, just very, very noticeable. Could be problematic, however, if approaching mach loony speeds.

In heavy chop they will deflect somewhat and you'll have to really be on top of your game.

I guess to keep this ski light, Head went with thin, flimsy base material and edges. I've had countless base gouges and edge burrs. Already had one (1) base grind and edge tune. Now I must fix a minor core shot. I swear, you ski within a foot of a rock, you're guaranteed some base damage, as if by magic. And this damage is coming from light scrapes, mostly. This is a very delicate ski.

I am replacing Kore 93 with the ON3P Woodsman (96mm). I am still keeping the Kores because I like them so much, and perhaps I'll ski them again when conditions are favorable for them.

After reading this thread and the other one (where westoxified said he had trouble to keep bindings attached to the ski...), I've emailed Head (euro) Customer Service and they emailed back :

I guess I'll find out. I'm bringing the ski to a shop that specialized on touring ski. They should know how to deal with light constructions.

My shop guy said that he used inserts to screw into. I've had no trouble with the bindings at all.

If you like to ski fast, it may behoove (sp?) you to find a damper ski.

One more observation. At the recommended mount point, I ski these with a centered stance in all conditions without pressuring the tips much. If you prefer to drive the tips you may want to explore a differed mount location.

I think I'll try +1. It's not enough to really ruin the ski, anyway, and I'll feel like I know what I'm doing, with my special setup.

Is there any issue mounting STH bindings on the Kore 93?

The skis will spontaneously combust if they’re not mounted with Tyrolia bindings

I have these skiis in 171cm mounted on Atomic Tracker 16, and I had to contact Head on the same concern,

They just wanted to make sure to use the best glue for the holes so the binding doesnt pull out.

Been skiing this for couple years and it skiis great on ice, packed powder.

Buddy has 93s and 105s mounted with Barons. No issues. He a big guy too

Thank you for the helpful comment :-). I have read that these skis have had the bindings come off in multiple occasions, so I was considering doing inserts.

Do you have any suggestions on the type of glue they use?
