One time, well, that we know about for sure, the Devil tried to convince Jesus to jump off of a building. The devil quoted scripture, attempting to convince Jesus that God would save him, thus proving he was Jesus. At least the devil had a personal beef with the guy. These guys are just like, "if we can use the bible to screw people, we can make money." So, yeah, worse than the devil.
