So I'm a new bike dude and want to go watch. Is it worth it? Any suggestions? Anyone else guna be up there? Should I bring my bike to get to good view points? Any opinions and suggestions are appreciated.

i think there will be a few of us around not racing & watching for maggot support. it'll be my first one so I have no idea what to expect either.
counting the AGs, I know at least 5 or 6 people planning on racing.
You would really enjoy watching, especially the pro's. We walked the DH course today, it is going to be SWEEEETTTT! They have added a few fairly large jumps, especially at the finish line. The dual slalom course is a bit weak but the pro's will still put on a good show (I think the finals are Friday night). We are thinking of doing the DH, Super D and Dual; I don't know if we can figure out the timing and both of us want to concentrate on the DH for sure.
We race DH on Saturday with all expert classes going sometime in the afternoon. The Pro's run DH Sunday, I think early afternoon. The last time Deer Valley held a Norba DH (2001), we watched from many vantage points and had a blast. You will be shocked how fast these guys ride stuff that seems un-ridable.
I hope we get a few more Maggots to race. The Super D is going to be run on Devo, almost a pure DH course (it is the sport DH course). I bet a bunch of cross-county types are going to be pissed but we love it. The AS-X will be perfect (hear that I-ST boys?!?!?!?). Again, the DH course is very nice and in GREAT condition. Get out there and have some fun.
I'm planning on racing the Sport Cross-Country race on Sunday, and my buddy Pat is racing the Expert Cross-Country race on Saturday. Yentna is still debating racing on Saturday (c'mon...you know you want to!!!) The course looks good from what I've seen on the map, and I'm planning on pre-riding tomorrow...if I can figure the trails out without them being marked. They're saying 8.5 miles per lap...anyone have any idea how many laps would be required for sport? I'm guessing 3 laps for sport, 2 for beginner, and 4 for expert? I'm not really that concerned with where I finish...if I don't look at the results I can't really be last, can I?

I think everything is marked already; I saw a lot of cross-country signs yesterday. Be careful though, some of the Go-Ride guys were pre-riding yesterday and supposedly got caught by Norba and were told if they get caught again, they will be disqualified (although, I don't think that would apply to cross-country). I might be up this afternoon to try the Super D course (and try not to get in trouble).

You'd just be trying to carry your bike through the brush on the sides of the course and it's stupid steep in places. I'll be racing, expert DH 30-39. I'd like to do the Super D, but it races on Sat AM, then experts start DH @ 1:15 and I want to stay fresh and clean. Plus I want to get a good practice run on Sat am to check the course and warm up.
Maybe I'll do Super D at the Utah State races tho.
I encourage everyone to get up to PC and watch some racing and check out the pits. Its a very cool scene and will get you all stoked on bikes.
Question for Mr AG: what does the jump look like at the bottom? Are talking the retaining wall drop, or a table/double? I really hope they put in a landing at the wall drop, thats gonna claim people..its so flat.
I am currently taking up a collection for the entry fee. Any maggots interested in sponsoring me (and helping to commence what will undoubtedly be the most amazing, longest lasting winning streak NORBA has ever seen) may paypal the funds to me, or deliver them in person at the race.

Yup I've hit the double wall a bunch, and the triple a few times. The double is def. no prob, but the triple is just too flat for its height. Even when we're just out freeriding I usually take a pass on that thing cuz its an ass buzzer. I'm afraid of whats gonna happen at race speeds.

Yeah, I can see hucking 3 of those being an issue at highway speeds (if that's actually it).
mmmm.... I'm not great at estimating but I'd say 3' per block? Plus however far down you land past the actual block. You can actually go off farther to lookers left where it's one block high, but then the landing is almost totally flat and you have to cut the corner way harder. So the part where it's 2 blocks high looks like it might actually be easiest. I'd wild guess that the guy we watched hit the 2 block yesterday went maybe 10' vertical from where he took off to where he landed.Quote:
